Treasure maps
Want! This would be do much fun. Could encourage people to travel more. I already played a few riddle puzzles in the game and really enjoyed them but combining it with exploration would be brilliant.
i’ve thought about a similar idea before (just not with runescape in mind), and i think it would be really cool. you drop a map, you can open it and make it soulbound, or sell to someone else.
inspecting the map would show you a random spot on the map of tyria, but not tell you what spot. you find that spot on your own map (or look up on the internet if you’re lazy >.>), travel there, and get some nice loot and money. the map would then disappear from the inventory (you’d need to bring the map with you to claim the treasure, like a key of sorts). it could even pop a treasure chest upon interacting, so other players see that you found treasure.
it would be a nice incentive to revisit completed areas, given that the rewards are good enough to pay the waypoint costs of getting there and back and still make a profit.
basically, my idea is more akin to treasure hunting and scavenging than with riddles.
they’d have to implement a system that would encourage new players to use them while still letting veteran players have to travel the world (from noob areas to lv80 areas) to find treasure, and not giving away the location of the treasure in the name (like ‘queensdale map’, that would ruin the fun). the rewards would also have to scale with level.

The end result of the map would be a guaranteed gold and heavy Karma reward (would help take off the karma grind from Orr and the like, and incentivise those to do them and not chuck them)
Agreed. We need more activities that offer Karma and Gold, aside from events.
As for the treasure hunt, I love the idea!
This, along with a Nicolas the Traveler type daily, would add so much more depth to the game.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
I wanna Sign for this!!
But these “maps” cannot be to common. But not to rare either. Make it so on average we may find about one each day. (lucky days may give more, unlucky days we get none).

In this case, make them unaffected by MF.
Oh! Oh! Oh!
Make one a Daily Achievement Reward as well!

How about Red Dead Redemption style treasure hunting?
Here’s my thought/idea on this:
Some mobs will drop pieces of the map, let’s say three or five. Once you complete it, you combine them to form a treasure map. When you double click the treasure map, it will open up a sketch, something like RDR’s map.
So when you solve the treasure map’s puzzle, you get to loot amazing stuff plus a piece of the next map to keep you going.

You mean like in Sid Meier’s Pirates? :p (yeah, it’s exactly the same..)
Love it! In some ways similar to an idea I just posted, but not so similar that you couldn’t have both.
