Travel in Tyria is very easy with a generous amount of waypoints throughout each map. However, some people such as myself (and I can see RP’rs also) enjoy more direct travel. Therefore, I am proposing a rune marker system. In that you would travel virtually anywhere in Tyria to one of your favorite hotpots, take out a rune when your on the location you want to save, mark it with magic and then deposit it in a book that you could carry with you.

This would allow you to collect travel destinations exclusive to your character so you can get back to exactly the same point you may want to visit again.

Again, with so many waypoints, this may be overkill but it would be nice to make travel destinations. (JP’s could be marked and residents of Tyira could sell them to others for a nice profit!)

Ahh, good old Mark and Recall from Ultima VII. It’s like 1992 all over again. (cries that U7 is now old enough to drink)

But it has some issues.

JP abuse would be a big problem, here. Many people with these would just mark the ends of tricky puzzles.

There ought to be a limit. Maybe 5 if they’re soulbound, or 20 if account bound.

No passengers; people being able to warp groups to a JP ending would REALLY corner the market, to the point where its usefulness AS a convenience item would disappear.

Cannot be used in WvW. Completely ASIDE from the Obsidian Sanctum, people could mark locations inside strategic enemy locations. (Say, a whole guild marks Green Keep in the EB when their server is green, then takes advantage of that when they’re red or blue to launch a “back door attack”. And don’t even start me on Stonemist….)

All things considered, between the abuse potential and the existence of waypoints, I REALLY don’t see this happening.

It DOES make me think that they should make a “Home Instance Access” token or ability, to take a character directly inside their race’s home instance from anywhere. As the Home Instance becomes increasingly more useful, I could see this working – and the existence of the Hall of Monuments Portal Stone indicates that the framework for it exists. (And you can choose to either exit through the door, to the racial city, or take a “marked transport spot” that will put you where you were. But that transport spot only exists if you enter via Portal Stone – no leaving to hit services out in the city THEN coming back to where you were before. As I said, it’s for Home Instance-exclusive services. Which ARE increasing, slowly.)
