I’m not sure about others, but I often find ground targeting to be extremely difficult to position quickly — probably because I’m using the mouse for steering and look-about and thus the pointer is never where I want the effect. This means it can take a fair bit of time to position the effect (bad for a fast paced fight).

OTH, about 90% of the time, I want the effect on my current target. Hence, these two suggestions for perhaps making ground targeting mouseless:

  • move the mouse to the current target on the first tap of a ground skill
  • activate the ground effect on the current target with a second tap of the skill key

IMHO, the first option has a few issues and I wouldn’t use it if the second option was available. I don’t think the second one has any issues, it’s a pure extra mechanic for the UI that doesn’t impact current UI behavior at all.

If done, these should be check box options similar to “fast ground targeting”; ie. not on all the time in order to keep from disturbing the play of those that like the current behavior.

Sounds OK to me, assuming that they can fix targeting first, particularly the game breaking right click targeting issue. That’s the issue that constantly causes you to lose your targets while moving (using mouse to move) and to start harvesting nodes or targeting critters in the middle of a fight…
