So, after the inevitable leak of the new armor sets (the steampunky ones) and new weapons (again, steampunk styled) it has also become blatantly obvious that it is planned to be cash shop stuff. Normally, I’m all for just fresh content coming into the game, be it cash shop or regular. But to have a perfectly good set of armor and set of weapons be cash shop? I think that’s a very big missed opportunity. My suggestion, would be to hold these off for a new dungeon with tokens and such. One that’s here to stay. The game (at least for me and the majority of my guild) has been getting stagnant lately, since the majority of the content in the past couple of months have been either temporary, or really shallow, minor updates. I implore you not to miss this chance to bring in some fresh content, and another dungeon is exactly what the game needs right now.

Why is it obvious that it will be gem-store?
Based on the leak there seems to be new foes at work which would most likely use these kind of weapons/armors so it is fully possible that they are actually drops/barters.
For all we know it is a new dungeons with dungeon tokens.

Along with the various images of the armors and weapons, there’s also an image with the armor and weapons in a cash shop header, with text that would allude to being in the cash shop.

If they will make those armors available only for gems (so, cash) i will quit this game. I want to have access to whole game, and have oportunity to get all items by playing, not by spending my money on them.

Either way, the screens and item links I saw weren’t appealing to me, so this won’t affect my skin choices.

But I do feel that all MMOs that have a cash shop should strive to maintain ways for players to acquire character customizations both in-game and out-of-game.

If something like that would make you quit (you can get them without paying any cakitten all even if they are gem-store only btw) I would think that you might want to revalue why you play the game in the first place tbh.

Cash shop stuff is fine, I realize that they need to make money since the game is F2P.

But there needs to be a balance between in-game content and cash shop stuff, and right now there’s not really. There’s a ton of gem shop content being added and almost no in-game items. A couple back items with each recent event, some minis, and that’s about it. Even those items are limited-time, so its not persistent content in the same way I’ve been hoping for. There’s event RNG skins and the recent ones have technically been acquirable in-game, but due to the extreme randomness it feels like a disconnect from

Where are the new items that drop just drop from normal enemies ermanently? Not RNG boxes from enemies that might drop skins, I mean just flat item drops. Where are the new Mystic Forge / crafting recipes for weapons and armor?

The Settler gear is a perfect example of something that should have been given unique skins as a way to expand customization acquired in-game, but was just given generic existing skins instead.

The Rox and Braham weapons would have made good Forge recipes.

Halloween was a great holiday because it had both types of content. Gem Store RNG stuff with the weapon skins in BLCs, but then it also added 3 Mystic Forge recipes for other new items. That stuff is still in-game today (the forge recipes). They need to go back to that model where they had a little of both types of content.

You can get Gems for Gold and Gold for Gems as stated above. At least it’s better then these RNG weapon boxes, and grinding for golds isn’t all that different from grinding for forge recipe mats.

Well, according to speculation, as well as Dulfy, looks like the armor IS indeed in the cash shop. The (admittedly, really nice looking) weapons are NPC only. The dungeon is going to be temporary. I can’t go through another update like this. I’m going to have to drop the game.

I think the direction of this game is obvious – leave the core dungeons in for people who want to play without spending money and any new content added will be temporary gem shop provocations.

It’s a low blow from ANet and it’s a shame that they took such a beautiful game in this direction. Such opportunity. With this type of content style I’d give the game maybe another year before it falls off the face of the map.

I agree, but, building a new dungeon is time consuming so we’d have to wait God knows how long.

Looking at the alternative (I.E. the way they did the Molten, South Sun and Dragon weapons) I just rather have them on the gem store.
Thankfully I didn’t even like any of the previous sets (aforementioned) but if I did I’d be screwed because I didn’t even get any tokens for them doing the events.

You can trade gold for gems anyway so I think its better this time around at least.

It’s different from the last bunch of events where you where you could sink a ton of gold or gems into boxes and get nothing.

At least these are items that everyone can attain without luck.

Regardless you have to pour gold/gems into an exclusive, time sensitive item.
