I have a few ideas that my guildies and I have come up with for a solution to the stock piling of seemingly useless Black Lion Chests.

If you want people to actually use them, and therefore purchase more gems/keys, you have to make the rewards worth it. Rather than increasing the drop rate of keys, (which we all still wish you would), how about putting things in them that would make them worth opening. Nobody wants Mystery Tonics. High level crafting materials would be more useful and desired, such as 10 Oricalchum, Gossamer, Jewelry Orbs, etc, or 3-5 Obsidian Shards, Ectos, Lodestones, etc, or 1 Clover.

Even the ability to take shattered and broken pieces of Lockpicks to the Mystic Forge to upgrade them to Black lion Keys, would be great instead of just increasing the drop rate of keys.

Mix up the rewards a little. Maybe even throw in some recipes for the Mystic Forge or an exotic every once in a while. But the Mystery Tonics and never-ending transmution stones have deemed these chests… useless.

Yes, I agree. Mystic Tonics especially are such a waste of space.

I don’t think they will increase the drop rate of keys since Black Lion Chests are one of these features that encourage players to spend real money on the game. And GW2 needs regular income.

At first I was a little reserved about adding rare crafting materials but since you can essentially buy Gold…it doesn’t really matter. So yeah, I’m all for it. Spice up the Black Lion Chests.

I haven’t seen a key drop in weeks. I just flogged 34 chests on the TP for the equivalent of a packet of Quavers and a bottle of Irn Bru.

I have 2 full bank rows of Mystic Tonics. I have never used one, nor will I. I only keep them in the hopes that one day I will be able to give them to someone who will use them. I would rather see dyes than tonics.

Most useless thing in game. Tell ya I won’t ever buy another key to get the tripe I got the time I did. Ever here of the destroy item feature? Actually used it on one of these useless boxes.

i have over 80+ boxes in storage but i would like this idea of adding top teir crafting mats

why can’t i just use a chest to crack open another chest? would save on keys if this worked…. could add a % chance to retain “cracking” chest (the one being used to crush the other ones)

or use a WvW Cow Finisher to open a chest?

Or use the Right Click > Destroy command to open chests, since the chest is being destroyed to access it’s random contents.

Currently sitting on 162 chests.

I wholeheartedly agree here. I have two characters in their 30’s & I’m already sitting on more chests than I know what to do with. All the rewards thus far I’ve gotten from them are nice to be honest, though they don’t really make me want to run out & buy gems. As a way to monetize the game & bring in revenue I feel the chests could offer a bit more. Not so much to make the game go into pay2win territory of course, but enough so that there would be some incentive for more of us. As the above posters mentioned, maybe adding in dyes or crafting mats? I would love it if the chests offered that for example.

Yup, I’ve got about 150 chests, I don’t intend to by keys for them as all I ever got from any I opened was junk.
