Utility Skill > Elite Slot
Interesting thoughts, all and all. I would like the ability to replace the elite with a regular utility since the elite’s enormous recharge tends to make them awesome but impractical. As far as the recharge time stuff and their balance, I would be reluctant to make that claim. Locking skills down when entering a dungeon could be good, but since traits will make many skill choices sub optimal, I have a feeling most people aren’t switching them up as much as that. But making people commit in an instance might not be a bad thing.
Fun on someone else’s schedule is not fun
Since the elites in gw2 are basically useless, or at best, extremely situational, I can only agree. I miss the GW1 elites, where it was a hard to get skill that was extremely powerful – you built your entire build around your elite skill.
i like my elites skills despite the fact they are on a long cooldown.
choosing a trait to short the cooldown on weapons and utility skills means you are not choosing a trait that do something else. so short by default all cooldowns means you have more traits available.

I’m hoping they add in some interesting and useful elite skills. Some are nice, most are junk.
I think elites need to be more powerful. I like the “ace in the sleeve” idea that was being tossed around early in the development of GW2, but they turned out kind of underwhelming, especially considering their recharge.
I would also like the option to put a utility skill in the elite slot, because most utilities are better than elites atm.
