In GW1 there was a later addition to hit ‘F’ to view yourself as other see you if targeted so you can see your own “Kind of a Big Deal” or “God Walking Among Mere Mortals” type titles.

It would also be nice to bring over the GW1 functionality to choose and achievement to wear when other see you.

Also, the Character icons you see next to names: these need tooltips. If I hover over an Arenanet employee icon, I should see a tooltip that says just that.

And this is why I don’t see custom titles happening. That’s only like the second “I’d be…” in the thread and its already inappropriate.

It’s only inappropriate if the character name isn’t already there. The custom title itself isn’t bad, who is offended by butts?

That said, I really do want to see my own titles.

It could happen and it would have to be policed, just like names and gtags are. Anything can be abused. That doesn’t mean everyone needs to be punished.

Yes, I know it could, but it’s still way more exploitable than an inappropriate character name. Those who make living out of scamming people’s accounts could just throw in titles such as “Moderator” or “GM” or any other misleading string, even if most of those were black listed, some people really have creativity when it comes to scamming.
Then just go around asking peoples passwords. Sure, your average player would spot the scam, but there are players who are more easily convinced. Especially if you have a title stating you’re GM.
I mean, there are a ton of people losing their accounts when they try to buy gold from an online vendor. (Yes, some people just are so dense.)

Not to mention that all the current titles in the game would become pretty much meaningless.

b) They could make you pay for a title and not bestow it until an actual person at AN reviewed it.
c) Current titles are meaningless to those of us who don’t care about them to begin with.

a) Yes, if they know every possible scam
b) This would indeed work better than a), but still result in angry customers. “Oh my gawd, I’ve been waiting for 3 days, just review my title already!” ect. completely unnecesarely drama.
c) This would make it meaningless to everyone. It is not an improvement, its a downgrade.

b) Whiners are customers too. Providing slow service is bad service. They paid for it, it’s completely virtual, why should they wait for the delivery?

c) Seriously, who would want something like “Been There, Done That” if you could just wear a title such as “The Ultimate Completionist” without actually doing anything? (Now, we aren’t talking about the star, we’re talking about the title.)

Or whats the point in “God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals” if you could just choose to call yourself “God Walking Among Mere Mortals”?

Or something like “Champion Dragon Slayer”? There’d be no point of achieving a hard to get title when there’s dime a dozen more boastful sounding avaible for a small fee. Unless you think everyone would remember what the original titles were, in which case you’d have some prestige. But no, people generally don’t.

However, I’ve seen we have derailed from the actual suggestion.
Yes, I would certainly want to see my own title. I would want to target my self, actually. And I’d like to see my own name above my head, so I would see that star. (So I don’t need to ask others if I have succesfully turned it off.)

Obviously it would defeat the purpose of the Custom Title idea if you could buy the same text as an existing title. Use your head before you hit post.
