I really enjoy playing my defense and tactics warrior. As such, I rely heavily on banner skills to increase my survivability as well as granting buffs and regeneration to my fellow allies. I love running this build; even while doing general PvE as I can grab several mobs, drop a banner… maybe two, and go to town with some nifty aoe buffs.

More recently, however, in the higher level areas I’ve experienced banner-thieving more frequently while going about my business. I will be merrily smashing several undead faces while having a banner placed nearby for the benefit. Suddenly, out of nowhere, someone will snatch up the banner, use ‘Inspire’ to grant themselves +33% movement speed and run off with my flag of awesome. I am unable to give chase, as I am in combat… and move slower in the face of imminent danger. Effectively, someone has stolen my skill for the 90ish second duration.

I propose a rather simple solution. Allow banners to be picked up, solely by those in the party with said warrior. Hopefully doing that will keep these blasted skill thieves at bay — as well as banners not being picked up by random players just trying to loot a heaping murder-pile… because that gets annoying even to me when merely trying to loot.

Because I’ll nab the flag while Stealthed, as I generally lack a good speed boost.

Also Banners should have a unique Adrenalin Skill. It seems rather silly that the main Warriortrademark has no Skill to spend Adrenalin with while picked up

Why not, instead, having an alternate sequence skill?
After planting the banner, the banner skills turns into ‘Banner recall’ skills. Like this:

Recall Banner of Defense:
Casting 1/4s.
Recharge 10s.
Teleport your Banner of Defense to your location. For 45 seconds, only players in your party can pick the banner.

That way, if you don’t mind them taking the banner, they can do so.
And if you mind you can even take it from their very hands.

Banners do work …just not in WvWvW, can’t say how it works in ‘old school’ PvP,
never tried it in GW2 ..yet. Banners are very useless in WvWvW due to their casting
time, not to mention their lack of mobility, which actually fits the warriors skillsets
in combat (excluding dual axe wielding and maybe greatsword skillsets).

A good fix for this would be for warriors to have the banners stick to their backs like the samuri used to have flags. So you summon your banner and it pops onto your back and gives an aoe effect around you and you never have to worry about having to pick it, put it down, or people taking it.

I was wondering if that would start becoming an issue. I have yet to see it on my support warrior, but then I only really drop my banners during major battles.

I had a similar idea as Banewrath’s, but instead of having a bunch of banners sticking out of your backside, make them into patches or symbols (downside is this reminds you of sigils) that glow on your armor instead. I mean, granted it has less panache than a bunch of banners, but that way they’d stick with the warrior so you don’t just leave them behind if the battle moves away…

Or go with Banewrath’s idea and have all 4 sticking up from behind you, one sticking left, one right, one middle, and the elite (since it’s ‘bigger’ and ‘flashier’) sticking up behind that middle one.

I mean, does anyone ever really pick them up and use the skills except for the speed boost? I know I never use them for fighting because they are junk. I try and pick up the precision one and use it’s skill for Fury boost once in awhile, but that’s about it.

I would think the skills they were programmed with are why they might be reluctant to do away with the actual banners…

This needs to be implemented with a lot of things. I’m sick of people jumping in to my mecha suit before I get to it…

But, my suggested way of doing this is just having one of those small click swatches pop up on your screen saying ‘Share your banner?’ when someone tries to pick it up, after a second it will go away. Much less complicated.

I like the only Party members can pick it up idea. When you are playing with people that know how to use them, back liners can move it around better with the flow of battle. Rather than the warrior running back to pick it up and move it. Or if they are smart enough even pick it up just to give the swiftness boost, then drop it back down.

Like many others I don’t use them that much, but when going out to do events in PvE, boosting a group of players is clearly a better idea than just self buffs. However, this is when you are more likely to run into Flag Trolls.

would really help if they made it so only group members of the warrior can pick up the banner.getting tired of picking them up when trying to loot

Banners should have a utility that unlocks the banners for other players to interact with.
