Weapon Swaps for Elementalist and Engineer
I don’t know abour engineers but elementalist can already switch between 4 elements giving them 4 new skill bars, while other classes can only switch between 2 weapons. I play an ele as my main and even I think that the other classes don’t have it as good as an ele. I would easily take 4 elements over 2 weapons. Out of combat, it only takes a few extra seconds to open your inventory and double click an item. Ele class is fine the way it is.
That doesn’t change the fact that every other class has more inventory space and doesn’t get disorganized while weapon-swapping.
Letting people fill offhand slots while wielding a two-hander was a wonderful, extremely pleasant quality of GW1. If the game is built for the players, don’t take away conveniences to the players like that simple one.
I remember years ago first discovering it. I was ecstatic over such a simple thing. Now it’s gone. =[
While we’re at it, turn on weapon kit auto attacks by default.
I agree with this. Just being able to slot it away, so my staff doesnt have to sit in my bag would be nice. Out of combat swap only of course.
based on a change of heart and thinking more clearly about the subject, I do agree that an “out of combat” ability to switch weapons for Ele class atleast (again, I don’t play engineer so I don’t know) would be a nice feature to add.
I salvaged my focus on my elementalist last night because i swapped to staff… the scepter went into my gear bag, but the focus ended up getting mixed with other loot, so i salvaged it by accident when i needed to free up inventory space.
I agree; organizing one’s inventory should not be an integral part of combat. An out-of-combat weapon swap does so little to alter the general balance of classes.
I can’t speak to engineers, as I don’t play one at all (saving up gold for character slots), but it seems reasonable.

It would be indeed good idea to implement an out of combat weaponset switch… We do it anyway so by making us having to go in our inventory and search our weapons only complicated it

Allow out of combat weapon swap. If nothing else, it would balance out the number of inventory slots Ele’s/Engi’s get.

Wut?
This is such an ignorant statement. Elementalists are fine without weapon swap, even outside of battle. If you have so many weapons that its penalizing your inventory space, that’s your own fault. Buy bags, buy slots — just stop complaining.

Ok. Then what about the other classes? Now, Ele’s get 20 skills per weapon and Engineers get afk turrets and/or 15 weapon skills if they are using tool kits — AND they both have the “convenience” of “more inventory space”. What do the rest of us get in return?
My statement isn’t ignorant at all. I know the mechanics quite well. This is a valid suggestion to remove tedium.
Do you know what ignorant means?
solanu, the rest of you ALREADY have more inventory space.
Your statement and suggestion are both very ignorant, actually.
Ignorant of what? Enlighten me instead of just saying I’m ignorant. Yes, I’m ignorant. I’m particularly ignorant of geography, cars, and sports. Do you see how I said, “ignorant of” something? Everyone is ignorant. Every statement is ignorant. Who are you, Michael Jackson?
Do you mean “naive?”
@solanu: Each elementalist weapon serves a purpose. You don’t go into a single-target fight with a staff and you don’t go into an AoE fest with a dagger. Each weapon fits a role. Yes, Elementalists have more skills per weapon, but this doesn’t change the roles filled by those weapons.
As it stands now, Elementalists are deprived of two inventory slots (they only have one aquatic weapon, or it would be three). As a guardian, I keep my AoE weapons and solo target weapons equipped at all times. I don’t have to dig in my bags to find where I put them. As an elementalist, I need to ask my group to stop while I look through my bags to find an item that nearly any other class would already have equipped, and access with a single key press.
Swap in combat would break the balance, but the first three words in this thread are “Out of combat!” Nobody gets anything in return because they have their own class-specific strengths already. Part of the class design was to remove in-combat weapon swaps. That was a good idea, and is not the topic of this thread. The logistical pain that is manual swaps, however, is. It isn’t fun, and, as was my experience, it can have a lasting negative effect.

As both an elementalist and an engineer, I wholeheartedly agree to an out of combat weapon swap on the elementalist. since there are even times where I’m manually trying to find and re-equip my weapons and I get pulled into combat and suddenly not only do I have the wrong weapons but I’m also looking through my character sheet [it lists the weapons for me] instead of being more aware of my surroundings.
The engineer does rather fine with the weapon kits. +1 anyway [for elementalist]

I miss the organized weapons management of GW1. You had F1-F4 for weapon set up on the fly. I can understand that some classes would be too powerful to swap in combat, but having the ability to keep your weapons organized at the press of a key would be great. I myself use staff, great sword, scepter/pistol, scepter/focus often and have to hit H and look for my stuff to equip it. Not impossible to do, just annoying having used that organized method in GW1.
As an Elementalist and a Warrior I don’t find the bag space argument very good. I do however completely agree that an out of combat weapon switch for Elementalist and Engineer would be great!
But I got a better solution that would benefit all classes. A few extra hotkey buttons on the UI for Gear swaps, or build swaps, where you can change your entire build out of combat, weapons, armor, jewelry and even traits. Give us 2-4 slots and allows us to unlock more through the Black Marked or in-game currency. Also allow us to keybind these slots for quicker access.
It would make item switching painless.
