Weapon skill Augmentation----Customization
Its basically what I want to see under the term of “Abilities” being implemented through a complete redesign and splitting of the Trait System into 3 different categories for Character Progression.
Abilities
Customization Effects for our Weapon Skills
Every Weapon Skill should have like 10 different Abilities with that we should be able to change the Effects of our Weapon KSilsl to finetune them more into the way how we want the skills to functionize.
Abilities should come together with Pro’s and Con’s to balance the Skilsl out and a player should be able to use per every Weapon Skill maximum 3 different Abilities.
Ability Slots should unlock through Skill Experience. Every Weapon Skill should be able to be leveled. So more often you use a Skill, so more experience do you collect with it.
Ability Slot 1 unlocks on Skill Level 2
Ability Slot 2 unlocks on Skill Level 5
Ability Slot 3 unlocks on Skill Level 8
Each Skill would have 10 Skill Levels, Skill Level 10 unlocks new Skill Skins, as like also Skill Level 4 and 6
Skill Levels 1, 3, 7 and 9 improve very slightly the maximum powers and effects of the Skill letting a Skill raise up in their Rank.
0 > 1 = Expert
> 3 = Master
> 7 = Grand Master
> 9 =Sage
This will ensure, that players will not be able to use right upfrotn from begin on the most useful/powerful Abilities and have first to gain some play experience with the Skilsl first, before they progress with them further and become able to customize the Skills more to their likings.

Traits
Stay similar like now, are passive Effects for Healing Skills, Utility Skills, give passive Stat Bonis or Boons on reaction of something that the player does, like dodges…
——
Talents
Natural born passive effects that are specialized for the classes specific Trait Lines and their class specific mechanics to progress and improve these into a way, that you could say to somoneone, who has maxed everything of a specific line, that that character is specialized towards that talent and thus becomes through that a new Sub Class X, unlocking new specialized class mechanics , skilsl , armor skins ect pp exclusively to that Sub Class, so that theres through this another option of character progression, that leads into more unique individual different characters in the end.

This is absolutely something I want to discuss with the Devs, once the Discussion thread changes soon its topic from the Living World/Story to another topic, which will hopefully be Character Progression, because its currently something, that is heavily lacking in GW2, and its somethign that has to be discusse to especially in relationship, that anet is planning on implementing in future more new skills on a more constant manner.
With implementing just only new skills, its absolutely not done alone.
Theres also alot to be discussed about, how they want to implement new skilsl/traits, what their plans in general are for improvign the trait system in future and if it will be possible for eample in future to gain somehow a few more trait points and so on …
Anet has asked, what people think, what kind of rewards we expect that motivate us to do thigns in GW2 to keep the game playing.
The only answer that shot just instantly into my brain was – Character Progression.
Its for me the most best reward there is.
Thats the reason why people loved to hunt down bosses in GW1 for new Elite Skills, because it gave us a feeling for character progression, it increased our build diversity, enabled us to come up with new gameplay combinations that could fit maybe alot better to our personal gameplay styles.
This kind of skill customization was also the original plan of anet to let the trait system work the same way.
The original concept about the trait system was to let it have alot more influence on the weapon skills, and I don’t know, why they changed the original trait system.
Maybe they thought it was too much of a copy of Diablo 3, which was near on release, or at similar release date with GW2 ? don’t know, but its just an wild assumption//guess from a player, who doesn’t understand why that change was neccessary…
Especialyl when Anet could massively easily improve the whole character progression system based on all 4 things that are part of character progression.
Skills, Abilities, Traits as also Talents do belong all together into what defines an unique character that progresses over time and should specialize itself into a certain way to stay more individual also over time …
I really like the upgrades for weapons. It would create more build diversity – which is something I really miss from Gw1 – by further customisation. I think they should require a certain type of “upgrade tablet” (example) alongside the 10 skill points.
You could be given a task by an NPC to kill X or collect X resources and trade them in for a random tablet for your profession for example.
Too bad A-net will probably never see this post because of the attention seeking people who ask for things that just don’t fit into GW2. Anyways this was just a test to see if it’s possible to affect the development of GW2.
Oh and Orpheal i really like your idea
I like this idea, I’ve actually been playing diablo on the 360 with my friend only on inferno right now playing monk and he’s playing wizard.
All I’ve wanted from weapon skills is the ability to unlock more would be nice if your mastery over a weapon took more than well no idea how long it takes from start to finish but it isn’t long at all I know that.
