Weapon skill swap will satisfy many players
I am certainly in favour of this kind of set up. It could be balanced quite well if each skill selection were on a per slot basis. For example, #1 slot choices will only offer auto attack skills along the theme you’ve already suggested etc, etc.
It really means that each weapon could be put in whatever build you like to play.
I really like swords but I can’t use them on my Guardian without gimping the support style I enjoy playing. This change would fix that to some extent.

This would be very difficult to balance.
This would be very difficult to balance.
Actually that totally depends on how they implement it.
What this would really do however is give multiple play styles to every weapon. As well as give builds and players way more complexity and style.
I dream about this too. I would like to have an ice offensive elementalist, fire is overrated. Most of our ice skills are pretty weak, except skill 2 on water staff. I miss ice damage spells from other games so bad. Also playing for a year with the same skills over and over with not many viable builds gets really boring. I love this game, I’m so excited about everything new to it, but it needs a little refreshment. Alternate skills for already existing weapons is something worth looking into. It would also prevent the classes to be predictible in PvP. Each time I enter into battle with a staff mesmer on my ele, I usually cast Phoenix 600 behind the actual mesmer, because of Phase Retreat.

that would be perfect, more guild wars in guild wars 2 ;]
I think that’s a great idea. That way, they could balance the “we want more support/dmg/conditions” on each weapon available.
I think we should be able to also choose each for each attunement on the elementalist. Having full dps on fire doesn’t mean I want full dps on water.
I’d love a pure fire DPS, water SUPPORT (heal), earth CONDITIONS and lighting SUPPORT (knockback/blind/etc.) build. Having more possibilities is always great.
I think it’d be a lot more easier to balance than be able to swap out each skills individually.
I’d rather make a player decide in which “style” he wants to use his weapon. The style would change all 5 (or 3 or 2) of the weapons skills. This system would be less cofusing for an opponent (if you could swap any weapon skill, your enemy would need to learn all of them and learn how to tell which one you wish to use, and that’s just crazy).
Well, you can always add new weapons and achive the same effect, but it’s about favourite weapons, not new ones.
Sometimes the ways to build one profession is very imited to keep it efficient. It’s not that some builds are impossible, but there is nearly always that one “the best” build and if you pick a different one, you will always be less effective.
Style idea is good, I don’t care about the form of this adjustment , I just want to be effective with weapons I visually prefer

^ I’m all for that, too.

This would make eles unbalanceable do to the sheer amount of combos
will not happen since they still fighting to fix the current system…and GS is no Berserker style for Mesmer its Sword Focus Pistol for absolut burst dmg.
I don’t like melee combat, at all!
As a dedicated Assassin/Rogue/Thief/Infiltrator/Shadow in many RPGs I like to stay behind and snipe ppl from safe distance. Sometimes it’s a bow, sometimes a Sniper Rifle! My Range is long, my shots powerful but at the expanse of being rather…fragile. Typical glass cannon! Unfortunately that is not an option for Thieves in Guild Wars 2, which is odd, considering that they are damage-oriented class, and I’m forced to play Sniper Ranger…with a pet, which I don’t like!
I want be able to customize my playstyle. If not by adding new skills, then by adding new weapons. Rifle for Thief is a good idea. Make him a Sniper, coz why not?
It doesn’t have to be OP and deal helltons of damage! It’s about the style!
@TomEdo +1
This just needs time and doable in the current form.
