I posted this over at mmorpg.com figured i would post it here too.

Or maybe Bonded weapons.

I believe this is the way Guildwars 2 should possibly look for expanding gear/character growth.

Instead of going up a gear treadmill by grinding new tiers of gear. Create Epic Quests. ALA EQ1 with Weapons that take a LONG time to achieve or work for. In depth quests that take effort and during parts of it Teamwork involving some of the Dynamic style bosses to be taken down in order to advance in them. Make the quests hidden so players can work hard to actually learn even where to begin. Also allow players to start actually working towards them in earlier levels. These can be world spanning quests. Each class would have several available. But a character could only ever have one.

Upon completion of the quest the character would be rewarded with his weapon of legend. These weapons would unlock a New Experience Bar that would allow the character to unlock new abilities, so that the player could customize the weapon. I havent played LoTRO but I remember reading once about legendary weapons there and it sounded something like this.

Anyway It would allow for further character customization and put some depth into the game, and allow for a different type of advancement rather than gear grinding.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Wikis say that won’t be possible.

No. One big thing about GW2 is how flexible each class can be. By locking out options, you reduce that flexibility.

These weapons would unlock a New Experience Bar that would allow the character to unlock new abilities, so that the player could customize the weapon.

The problem isn’t gear grinding. The problem is grinding for stats. So your suggestion isn’t a solution.
