Guild Wars 2

Currently, I feel like there is not a single social zone in this game where people actively talk in /say, and in my whole leveling process of 5 level 80s I did not make a single friend with anyone, I know this may not be the case for everyone but for me, it is a huge downfall as this was supposed to be a hugely social game. I hate to make the comparison to WoW, but outside of Orgrimmar was a fantastic social hub where you could just sit there for HOURS and just talk and duel with people, Gw2 has not a single place similar to this where you actually talk in /say with the people right next to you. It would help a lot if dueling was added even though I know this game is not supposed to be even at a 1 v 1 fight, but I think it is necessary to add a social map/hub where people actually want to go to, and dueling with wagers maybe would help out a lot. If anyone would like to expand or criticize on my idea I welcome it.

no one in this game really talks in /say, I know there are social people in guild/map chats but there is a difference when you are talking to a character that you can see right in front of you

People don’t talk in “/say” because they choose not to, you can’t create a special place that will change people’s desire to do so…some could say Lion’s Arch could be such a place…but it doesn’t change the fact that everyone seems to prefer to chat in “/guild” or better yet, actually talking with frieds in various voice apps.

I also don’t feel that dueling being added will make any significant difference on this front. Some will enjoy it, some won’t, some won’t care one way of another, heck some even use duel challenges as a means to grief others. but it really won’t make a real difference to the social aspect of the game.

i see your point…but you seem to be missing the point that this game is plenty social. Sure…there might not be an specific area where people hang and actively talk in say. But people are active in map and guild chats. I think people prefer to use map chat as opposed to say because its a more convenient way to socialize with people in the area.

However, if you feel thats not enough socialness for you and want to see activeness in say…then you should try to change that. This is something thats really up to the guild wars players to make happen…arenanet cant force players to use say chat.

I would advise start using say chat to talk to people in LA somewhere you think would be a good place to establish an area to use say chat if you want to see this.

I see talking in say around big events and for rp. I doesn’t serve a huge purpose unless you’re actively trying to make friends though. It’s sorta on you to make that work. You really can’t make people want to be buddy buddy no matter how much you require other’s help.

To be honest I don’t even see that much say talk outside Org. Unless you’re counting “gg” and taunts.

Chat bubbles would probably go a lot further for opening up /say dialogs, because people would be less likely to miss comments. Problem there is that chat bubbles are ugly, so I would hope you had the option to toggle them off , or sub them for a symbol indicating a player is talking so you know to look at chat to see what they are saying.

Again, hate to make the comparison to WoW, but in WoW players could hang out outside of Orgrimmar for HOURS doing essentially nothing but talking to other people/dueling if you sit in Lions Arch talking to people all day it feels more like a colossal waste of time, (I know that all in all every video game is a waste of time, but that isnt the argument here), there is a big difference and I feel like if they added in dueling, it would bring in that other aspect that would make players actually want to sign in to have fun and be social with people that are not in your guild,
(not everyone is in a 500 person guild or wants to be),

Perhaps you are on the wrong server. I am on Tarnished Coast, the unofficial RP server for NA, and people talk in /say everywhere. I have a slew of friends and I am whisper-bombed constantly.
