Commander of Blacktide
So, why do these places exist?
Does anyone even do anything there?, besides personal story events?
These are some of the most deserted places in the whole game, plz explain.
Only thing I saw useful there are exotic weapon merchants
roleplaying, crafting, banking, trading post.
They are meant as places for players to hang out, trade and craft. Unfortunately, most players seem to be doing this in Lion’s Arch.
One of the main attractions to the racial cities was intended to be mini-games. For example, Divinity’s Reach would have a barfight mini-game with interactive (and destroyable) furniture (advertised by ArenaNet before game release). For another example, I highly suspect from some NPC dialogue in BWE3 that the Black Citadel is supposed to have a shooter mini-game, where you fire “ghost-round cannons” at Ascalonian ghosts.
At the moment, only one of these mini-games is actually implemented in the game: Keg Brawl. From how this works, it stands to reason that any new mini-games will also have new achievements tied to them.
So they spend massive hours designing and creating huge cities like Divinity’s Reach, but there’s nothing there for us to do.
Like someone said, maybe getting your cultural armor, that’s it.
So much wasted space, they need to come up with something, those streets should be full of players.
I am assuming that the mini-games were not ready to be included at launch, and will be added later. ArenaNet has repeatedly stated that they release new content “when it’s done”.
In one of the articles on their main page (the one discussing live game updates), we were even promised that the “bonus live team” expects to have something new in early November. I am guessing it will be at least one of these mini-games.
The main cities need all the same perks LA has, like portals to the other cities and a mystic forge. That way people would spread out more and go to the city of their liking. Also let us choose from heart of the mists which town we want to go to.

Nothing, actually. They are just a gimmick, just like most things in GW2.
Aren’t they gimmicks in most MMO’s? lots of npcs and lots of vendors, guild stuff maybe and crafting. Don’t remember ever seeing something interesting in a capital town/city in a MMO
History-wise… would u rather have a flat background in the back? Maybe later personal housing or something like that..
I think the cities are unfinished and it is on the to do list.
1. Npc have a cloud symbol when you mouse over them, but they only greet you.
2. unfinished mini games
3. Player houses will be added
4. Guild halls may have something to do with the cities
5. areas that look like they are under construction
I think 6 month from now this will be a different game.
