What the 'Kittens' is it all about?
bad words (swears and some insults) are replaced with kitten automatically, its not people saying kitten its people getting “corrected” by the forums automatically to keep it clean.
Could you please kitten me the kitten kittener?…
(Actually just saw the smurfs with my son yesterday… the old version)..
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
Heh. I gotta say, there are two major effects of the censorship.
1. The word “kitten” has changed forever for me. It suddenly seems like the worst of all curse words because it’s every curse word imaginable.
2. Second, I’ve started self-censoring when I post. I find myself writing in “kitten” directly instead of waiting for the censorship mechanism to kick in.
By far the funniest result of the censorship was a recent post where somebody wrote the curse: “You kitten Mother-kittener!”
Another funny thing about the censor is how dumb it is. If it “sees” certain letter combinations, even in adjacent words, it will censor them and add a kitten. For example, if one word ends with an sh, and the next word begins with an it, a kitten will appear and link the words together. It should be called, the Puritan filter. It sees dirty words everywhere.

Well thats to prevent people getting around it by spelling it out with spaces and such.

True, but I meant it more that it filters words like ikittenerg (in—a—Zerg)
Yea, I would hope they’d eventually tweak it to recognize a legitimate attempt to bypass, versus a coincidental arrangement of letters.
Failing that, why not set it up like the chat filter ingame? Turn it on or off at our leisure.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I did wonder to start with, I thought this subsection of the internet had started developing its own language xD
think they went a little crazy with the filter. glmp3d = kitten.

that kinda makes sense, since that word also refers to BDSM fetishes (one who is restricted and suffering abuse for the pleasure of the abuser :P)
…
although why “BDSM fetishes” is perfectly fine though…

because calling someone a kitten is offensive in many parts of the world.
Friend: Awww what a cute little kitten
Me: ._. what did you just say?
lots of words have more than one meaning. I’d say crippled is the main definition of the word, not the Pulp Fiction derivative.
What did you use to make that kewl avatar?
—-kitten
Lots of words have other meanings. I’d say it

bah, filtering isn’t that bad, most people have very little of actual value (or coherence) to say, at least now when I read their messages I get to think about kittens.
Don’t be fooled by the “censorship” reason behind it. They could find any word to replace the bad language but they used this out of all because they need to show more obviously who are their masters. For those interested, google “kitten programming” and you will understand better. And yea, i wrote kitten and not a bad word
