Eight years. And counting. Eight years and counting that you’ve been teasing us with a rapier and still you won’t give it to us, even after we begged and pleaded. I would’ve given you so much of my money. I was ready. Today was supposed to have been the day. I would’ve broken down and bought gems. I would have. So I could FINALLY, FINALLY HAVE A RAPIER.

Given that the NPCs referred to the rapier as a weapon they had never seen before, I would expect it to come in as a new weapon type in the future, available to a few of the classes. I would have been fairly disappointed if it came through as a mere skin.

Makes me a bit relieved that it wasn’t made available as a skin here, and a little more assured on my theory that it will be a new weapon type.

I don’t want a new weapon type. I like my sword skills just fine and I want a rapier (which, guess what, IS A SWORD) as a sword skin.

However IMHO a rapier wouldn’t really look good with the current sword animations. Most sword attacks are slashing attacks, a rapier is used mostly with thrusting attacks.

As if I care. I’m a mesmer, my every third autoattack is a thrust, and my #2 is a fast flurry of blows. These attacks suit a rapier way more than it does the stubby meat cleavers Anet seems to think are one-handed swords.

A rapier as a new weapon type would be great. It is just fantastic for eles and mesmer

concept art from so long ago.. the Rapier should have been the weapon of choice for a Mesmer from day one in GW1, and here as well. It is elegant, and fits.

Bad enough Mesmer lost that theatrical feel with most light armors, but no rapier..boo
