So I bought this game around it’s release date enjoyed it very much. However I failed to get a single friend join this game with me. They all feel like they have been burnt to many times on mmo’s and you can’t get a good feel of how the game is going to be from videos. So after well over a year of playing this game with none of my rl friends I quit. Having friends play the game is really crucial for me to continue playing a online game. It is hard to convince people that guild wars 2 is refreshing compared to many other mmo’s that have set the standard. The game stresses quality over quantity through and through and it makes for a much more pleasant experience. People wont understand how great this game is until they play it for themselves. I would like to request some sort of refer a friend or something similar to allow friends to try out the game. Even if it were just once a year thing where you get to pick 1 friend a year to give them a month / week of access to the game. I think it would really help people get a good idea of the game and make them much more comfortable putting down their hard earned cash.

I think a trial version would be awesome! ArenaNet does occasionally have them at certain times, but I would like to see a permanently available one. The trial version in GW1 is the only reason I ended up buying GW1. At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to buy GW1, so I tried the free trial version and found I liked it enough to spend some money on it…then once I owned Prophecies, I found out it was even better than I had thought and ended up buying all the games.

The problem with a permanent trial offer is that it’s open to abuse from gold spammers as we have seen from recent trial events. Anet need to put in place a system that prevents new/trial accounts from using /whisper, map chat and mail at the very least.

I think stopping them from sending mail and selling in the TP is enough.
Whisper is important for contact with friends, and sending some itens for a friend to jump start his char is good form too.
But by barring the person from sending mail or selling in the TP, his influence in the market is reduced enough, I think.
