Why Not Save Ranger's Pet Names Client Side?
http://axegang.enjin.com
A 3rd party program is probably against the TOS.
As for client side names, that should be possible. So it’s a good idea.
Yeah I would like this for sure, I hate when I change pets and the name reverted back to juvenile xxxxx
I remember when Anet gave us the ability to save builds in GW they were saved Client side. Made it easier to trade builds and took pressure off the game server.
i do wish it would say their names
I would love this so much.

I have been thinking about making a suggestion like this for some time. I don’t switch pets that often, but I still would like all of them to keep the names I give them.
Since most people do not play in multiple computers and the GW2.dat is basically a virtual drive, and it already has some settings saved on it, I believe this could work.
If it worked as I think it could, they’ll just have to keep the id of the character and a list of names. And players would have to make the names again if they played in another computer.
It could be even better if you could keep a list in a TXT in the Guild Wars 2 document folder, and you simply clicked on icons in the panel to :
- Add/Delete current name to the list (changes to Delete when the name is in the list, becomes disabled when the textbox is empty).
- Show list of names. That would show a list of the names in the TXT with a scrollbar.
You could also edit the TXT manually, by simply putting one name per line. If you put a name too large, it’ll be truncated inside the game.
This would allow you to save names across characters.
If that’ not possible, at least keep the current two names after switching, instead going back to the default name, or at least remove the ‘juvenile’.
Indeed, why not save them this way? It does begin to be a pain in the bum otherwise.
Lol database too large, that’s funny.
How may pets are there? I saw a pretty small list of animals on the list for my ranger. Having a specific slot they occupy makes it VERY easy to associate a name to that slot. There are no technical challenges to overcome to implement this, someone simply has to do it. Just like all other things that are incomplete at the moment, it’ll probably get done eventually.
When you get a non-elite racial skill, you also get engineer skills, even if you are not an engineer.
That makes me suspect that characters get ‘generic’ save data that would potentially change professions, but not race.
If that’s true, each character would have to be able to save the name of each of its pets, which would mean quite some text. Probably even unicode text as it allows several special characters. That would mean quite some data actually.
This would be a very nice feature. Most people have stopped naming their pets and it’s a shame. Would it be that difficult for the game to save the names on our own computers so it doesn’t take up space on the Guild Wars 2 data base?
Why Ranger pets still walk when they are dead and why we target them ?
Dead pet should lie down on the ground for sure.
I would love this so much.
As would we all.
I’m hoping it’s not a matter “if” but “when” this will get done.

I think it is as… they are not dead (god forbid my pets die) but rather “downed”. They have taken so much damage they are unable to fight and thus return to their master, untill healed.
i switch between certain pets constantly and (although i already have names for them) i just cba renaming them each time
would love
80 warr [Blaze Steelsoul], 80 ele [Blaze Nightstrike], 80 mesmer [Grim Shatterwhirl]
80 guard [Dusk Grimlight], 80 engi [Flintgear]
I stopped naming my pets for the reason that it doesn’t stick. I later read that it was all saved server side, and that it was like this to save space…Why save this server side? I’d rather have it client side…it’s not like I continiually play on 5 different machines that needs synchronizing…
Actually, it seems that most, if not all configurations are saved server side. Keybinds are server side at least, which makes even less sense as different computers might have different peripherals…
+1

Also on the subject of Ranger pets, it would be really helpful if the pets stayed extremely close to our sides with concerns to aggro.
