I would be willing to pay a nice chuck of gems for a race change.
I believe a lot of other people would like this feature also.

In short, add race changes, make money.

Because as has been said lots of times now it would just cause too many problems. From the personal story, racial skills, cultural armour etc. It’s not going to happen.

I would take advantage of this if it were offered, but I don’t believe it will ever be offered. How would the story choices be affected?

I don’t care about technical questions, it just shouldn’t happen. GW2 is an MMORPG, you created a character with a personal story, being able to simply change races would be ridiculous from an RPG perspective. The total makeover kit already goes too far.
