Hi..
I have a simple question (maybe stupid) Why, despite many Italians bought Guildwars 2 the game is translated into all the languages ??but not in Italian? Many sites are talking about people who would like to translate it free (if you own a massive cost to do it by Anet) But none of the permissions or some help / hint.
I would like to get some answers as I and other friends from various regions All we stopped for the same reason. (We know the English, but to play so it will never be a real pleasure.)
Thank you for your attention. and sorry for spelling errors

Because, simply put, there aren’t enough italian-speakers playing the game. Don’t forget that Italian is only spoken in Italy.

“We have no first-person view because stupid people would lock into it”
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

Supporting the game in any language implies more than just having the client available in those languages. There is hiring customer support people with the right language skills then there is all the NPC chatter and various other voiceover. There is probably plenty of other things I’ve missed.

You might be fine with just the text but for every person who is okay with that there is at least one who isn’t. Sooner or later you’ll also get people lobbing accusations of doing a kitten job(which isn’t entirely false if they only translate the text).

even if italian is talked only in italy, we are still part of europe and have the same language rights i guess…
coming out that we are sons of a lesser god because we are not born in the country of the chosen ones is stupid!
i don’t care, i can understand english perfectly fine even if i don’t speak it that much, but nobody is asking for voice over, they were asking for just translation.

also i hate assumption that imply other language other than english, french, german and spanish are a waste of time for the rest of the world (since the rest of the world likes to spend so much time in italy anyway)

also by this reasoning, if everybody should talk the most spoken language in the world, we should all learn chinese as a main and spanish as a secondary language…

Except he didn’t say anything like that. All he said is that not enough Italian speakers play the game, so Arenanet didn’t translate it into that language. The game is only in four languages, there’s a lot more than that in Europe. Those languages were chosen precisely because they had the larger majority of would be players.

Main : Jski Imaginary ELE (Necromancer)
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)

It’s not that simple, you can’t just simply translate the game that easily. They would have to hire voice actors otherwise it will look incredibly cheap.

Furthermore they have their hands tied up with releasing it in China.

There’s a total of 24 official languages in the European Union. Out of those, only four are options in Guild Wars 2.

Your argument could be used for all the other 19 languages. Heck, some of them have even better arguments than Italian, as they use a different alphabet.

also i hate assumption that imply other language other than english, french, german and spanish are a waste of time for the rest of the world (since the rest of the world likes to spend so much time in italy anyway)

That’s an assumption that you are making. No one else is making that assumption. It just happens that English, French, German and Spanish are the most widely spoken languages in Europe. As you can see, English is the overall most spoken language, with German and French coming up next. The reason Spanish was chosen over Italian would most likely be because Italian is hardly spoken outside of Italy, whereas Spanish is rather evenly spoken both in Spain and outside.

And as was pointed out by everyone else, implementing a language to the game comes with a lot of requirements. You have to do the voicework for every single NPC, which there are hundreds of. You also have to do all the written text in the game, which is a massive effort. Also, you might have noticed that all the supported languages have servers of their own. This means that any language is only up to consideration if there is a significant enough playerbase to warrant giving them at least one server. Last but not the least, by having the game available in a specific language, you’re implying that the customer has the right to support in that language, which means hiring people who are proficient at that language to fill tech support roles.

And of course, adding languages after the game has been out for almost a year is going to have issues of its own. Even if you add a language, give them their own server and provide free transfer to that server, you’re probably wasting your time as most people will not be willing to leave behind their guilds and friends just to move to a server with their own language.

So in the end, it’s a lot of effort and resources that would most likely end up wasted.

I’m italian but I have To agree with others. Our language isn’t the Only one that is not present in gw2 and also, If Anet puts money and efforts on translation or any kind of support in any “new” language maybe they will have less time for working on contents, upgrades, etc. Even If I don’t speak well english I Would not click on “italian language” in the game options, it helps practicing :P and it’s also normal in 2013 talk and speak in english in a mmorpg
