I bought a set of tailoring recipes from Dynamic Event karma vendor. I was playing a Ranger and I thought I could give these recipes to my light-armor character, who has tailoring profession. Turns out I couldn’t, because those recipes are soulbound on acquire.

I don’t understand the need for this. If the purpose is meant to prevent trading these items to other players, then account-bound limitation is in order. I have my bank full of items that are “soulbound to another character”, for example Blueprints for WvW siege weapons and Giant Pearls. If I play WvW with multiple characters I’m going to have several stacks of Giant Pearls on my bank and I have to figure out which of the Blueprints belong to which character (the game doesn’t tell you).

So my suggestion is this: make general purpose items such as crafting recipes and event items account-bound instead of soulbound. Update tooltips to tell which character soulbound items are bound to.

Agreed, agreed, agreed. At the very minimum Anet needs to specify which items are soulbound to which characters…though I’d prefer it if it turned accountbound rather than soulbound.

Nothing is more depressing that getting a high level rare or exotic accessory from monster drops, because they are soulbound on acquire, generally have stats that are incompatible with your current build (ie. getting a berserker’s amulet when you wanted cleric), cannot be salvaged, and can only be used by the character who loots it.

I agree that there are a lot of needlessly soulbound items, however Karma and Event items probably should remain soulbound, not that I wouldn’t want to move my karma from my main to my alts in the form of gear. Dungeon tokens imo probably should be account bound, items bought with karma keep them soulbound.

I fullheartedly agree with this, the soul/account bound things are way to strict atm. In a sense i am glad they made it strict to begin with (actually making things more strict usually ends up in a rage), but i think that ‘now’ would be a good time to evaluate all these restrictions and re-evaluate which may not make that much sense in regards to player behavior.

I would like to see them go a step further though. I would also like them to evaluate which items may be suited to open up for trade & mailing, from the various character&account bound items. I am mostly shocked by the amount of small ‘fun’ items that are bound. See, as somebody that organized ingame events in GW1 i have been looking for somewhat easy to aquire but fun to hand out items, that could either make good prices or just good ‘things’ to hand out during events and games.

There seem to hardly be any of those, which makes me fear that community driven events could take a bit of hit, instead of becomming a hit! Tonics, firework, boosters, black-lion-keys/boxes, etc. The would be awesome things to give away during event games! … and i don’t get it either, i mean, sure opening them up would mean that players could buy these things for copper instead of going through the gemshop to get them. But then, you can buy gems for copper, so in essence you can already buy these things for copper! The only difference is the location where they are bought (gemshop or auctionhouse). There seems not to be any logic behind this…

So YES, please re-evaluate the bound status off all currently bound items, and loosen the restrictions where the reasons don’t make sense in hindsight, or where the restrictions limit the player’s convience in utilizing their account.

We are peace, we are war. We are how we treat each other and nothing more…

They have stated elsewhere that they want to convert karma recipes to be account-bound in the near future.

I do agree that they need to go through items that are soulbound and re-evaluate whether or not they should be account-bound instead. I especially do not understand why salvage kits are account-bound but gathering tools are soulbound. I was dismayed to find that blueprints are soulbound and it has deterred me from doing any more PVP jump puzzles, lest my slots fill with blueprints.

I really don’t think anything should be Soulbound / Accountbound. Not Legendarie’s, not mystics, not gemstore items and not Karma items. Nothing!

Why? Because if someone wants to take the time to go out of their way to collect the items required why in the world should they not be able to sell it? Sell if for the cost of materials, plus the time that it took to get them and add on-top of that the convenience for the buyer.

It just doesn’t make sense that we cannot sell / trade / giveaway items that another player needs or wants to buy with hard earned gold.

Oh and don’t get me started on the lack of possible profit from Crafting…. there is just no definite way to make money in this game except selling everything to NPC Merchants.
