For anyone here who hasn’t played DC Universe Online, that game has an AMAZING level of Character-Customization. It fact, it dwarfs practically any other game, but Guild Wars 2’s is pretty robust, as well.

Well, in DCUO, every time you acquire a new piece of equipment — be it Armor or Weapon — you automatically “learn” that item’s appearance. You don’t lose the item, and you don’t have to keep the item, either; you simply have access to its appearance, forever.

So, say I’m using my Avenger’s Longsword, which uses the “Avenger” graphic, but then I acquire a Superior Claymore of Frost. Once I equip it, I then learn the “Claymore” graphic. Now, I’m free to vendor my Avenger’s Longsword, but I can still use its appearance down the road, completely hassle-free. As well, I may acquire other swords down the road that share the “Claymore” appearance, and in those cases, you simply don’t learn a new appearance when equipping them.

Of course, I realize that there is already a system in place that utilizes Stones to “transmute” an items appearance; that’s fine! But instead of choosing a specific item you wish to use the appearance of, you would not be presented with a window that showcases all of the appropriate Weapon/Armor graphics you’ve ever acquired!

The problem they nuke with this is that Basic Transmutation Stones and Fine Stones get rid of an item. It reduces the clutter of the items around and if everyone passes items around so everyone has the skin then those items sit there collecting space.

I would personally like to be able to UNLOCK designs for weps and armor when crafting.
When you craft an item you could select a design so your armor comes out with that look rather then the generic crafting design.
Soulbound of course and unlocked through recipe, level and gem store purchase rather then just obtaining the armor.

I would rather purchase crafting designs for crafting then I would for those transmuted costumes from the gem store.
