Q:

I mean just a thought? Is it so a-net would make more money when people buy gems to purchase a 800 gold legendary? Since i think a legendary weapon should be soulbound, it’s a legendary weapon damn it. No-one sells legendary weapons.

If possible, i think this should be put back to original auto-soulbound. This is getting stupid otherwised. Some things should not be buyable.. :S

Maybe I don’t want to spend the considerable amount of time attempting to make my own and just want to use that time to save up money to purchase one.

So basically what you are saying here is that: ‘’Maybe i don’t want to work for the things i want? Specially if i have the money.’’

-Some people work for these things. If you want it the do something.

The whole idea behind a legendary is that you get it with hard work. This is getting rediculous and people want to get everything on a silver spoon in this game now. I mean really, listen to yourself. It’s called a LEGENDARY weapon for a reason.

If you cannot put enough effort into something because you have something better to do, don’t do it. It’s that easy. This is getting really sad with all this carebearingess ‘’so that everyone can enjoy it’’. Everyone CAN enjoy it if they want to.

I don’t have a legendary and don’t know if i ever will have but i’m on my way getting one. Not buying it from TP. This game is getting tuned down more and more towards people that have more money to spend for gems (change -> gold) and towards people that are just plain lazy.

In a game like this you make a choice: You play a lot and you get better (in this case cooler) gear or you don’t and stay at a casual level. It’s always been like this. These games treat you like you treat them, at least it should.

The direction this game is taking is not good in my opinion.. :S

Ps. This is exactly the same thing Diablo 3 did except you don’t have to change currency. Do you want this game to change into Diablo 3?

The problem is not the challenge to get these things, there is no challenge. The only thing these take is time, and if you can make more money in real life in a shorter amount of time then just buy the gems to convert into gold it becomes pointless to do otherwise, you’d be asking him to “work” in a game longer than he needed to in real life to obtain something only useful in this game. If you could make 30 dollars an hour why are you going to put in 60 hours at a job making 7.50 an hour? Are you just that dull?

They won’t change this and they won’t remove this because no matter how much you try to cover it up Anet wants you to spend real cash on these things if they didn’t this game wouldn’t be in the state it is, mark my words things will only get worse.

This sums it up. Legendaries are nothing more than a massive time and/or gold sink. There is little to no actual challenge in obtaining them other than having the willpower to spend hundreds of hours grinding for it.

I work 50+ hours a week and would rather save up to buy one than grind out 2-3g per hour in game for something that costs 1300+ gold now. If I just converted what I make per hour into gold it would be vastly more efficient to do that and save time for more fun things in the game.

I don’t really see a problem with this. If they want to rather buy a legendary instead of making it themselves, then let them. Everyone don’t work the same and everyone don’t want to use the same method of getting something.
And since this would most likely make people buy more gems to get the gold needed to buy them then Anet gets more money to keep the game up and running. Everyone wins on legendaries being sold for gold

I don’t see why everyone is up in arms about this now (and by everyone I mean the few outspoken people that try to sound like everyone). This has been a part of the trading Post since it opened. There has ALWAYS been the “Legendary” filter option. What did people think that meant? Honestly, if someone wants to spend the money to buy it, that is fine by me. It has no impact at all on what that character can do to me.

They need to do the opposite- they need to make LESS stuff soulbound. Like the Ascended gear.

If I want to put the time and effort into getting a legendary or ascended item, I should be able to do whatever I want with it. If that includes getting filthy rich on so much gold that I can swim around in it like Scrooge McDuck, then I should be able to do just that.

You do realize if someone used Gems to Buy enough gold to buy this Item it would cost them like $5,000 USD.

If some idiot is dumb enough to do that then trust me they got what they deserve, plus Anet just made allot of money.

However if they bought the gold from somewhere else it wouldn’t be as much but still be allot $$ either way lol.

I’m thinking it’s possible that it may be a site that’s selling this item to get the gold just to turn around and sell the gold to additional morons to make money.

So with this said I find it hard to believe, that there is someone in the game that actually farmed that much gold since release and if they did they have no life what so ever and they need intervention… Or they used a some bots.

There is one last possibility. Some dude just threw it up there just because he knows no one will ever buy it for that price. Pretty much using it like a bank. However if someone did buy it he has enough gold for just about anything he will ever need spanned across multiple accounts. lol

Legendaries aren’t legendary, they are just lame the way they are now… they should be soulbound, 90% of the mats should be soulbound, and obtained as an achievement of sorts.

What I think is funny is that players use the Legendary equipment as excuses to keep the World Completion points in W3. Having Legendary equipment sell-able on the TP defeats that argument.

Still kinda silly to make them hard to acquire then allow them to be sold. At least they aren’t bought in the Gem Store, that would make this a P2W business model then.

The guy on put the legendary on the market is just showing off his money/ stuff. I mean, it is on the market for 9500g.

It only seems like 800g because I think the TP cannot work with such large sums lol, so it scats a little bit. Click on the actual item to see the proper listing.

As I said, my guess he is just showing off because he finally completed his legendary. Or he is one of those traders/exploiters that got rich of using the godskull exploit back then, and he’s definitely making fun of the pleb who’s struggling to put 2 gold together.

In either case, it’s a kitten move lol

EDIT : if there is confusion, I am on a EU server so we could be talking about a different legendary being listed.
And if we are…it seems kind of strange that legendaries would both be listed on several various TP domains (since several servers share the same TP).

Almost smells fishy to me…

I am not a fan of the B2P or F2P model for exactly this reason. In a subscription MMO you can say, with a fair amount of certainty at least assuming they’re not a blatant gold buyer, that if someone has a rare or otherwise prestigious item, they earned it. Because you can basically just buy anything you want in GW2, my first assumption upon seeing someone with a legendary isn’t “wow, he’s really dedicated to the game and put a lot of effort into that, cool!” and is instead “this guy spent waaaaay too much money on gems, feh”.

Legendary items in this game are pointless as they are now. Why go through the effort when some kitten can just buy one.

I love pvp. wvwvw is why I play this game. I spend 99% of my time in wvw and the other percent is waiting in queue for wvw.
I absolutely HATE pve. I have no desire what so ever of grinding in pve to get a legendary. I make my money from playing the trade market.
If I would get a legendary, given they make them not suck for thieves, it will be by buying it. Why force the pvp community to do boring pve? we don’t force YOU to play pvp only to get something like a legendary. Yeah you need badges for the legendary, but badges are easy to get and the amount of badges needed is in no way close to the things you need from pve.

“I do not want people to be able to buy precursor, because I do not have enough money to buy one and have to farm events in hopes of one dropping.”
That is pretty much the same thing. If people want to sell their legendary, then let them. 9500 g? Does it even cost that much to make a legendary? It is probably cheaper to craft one yourself. And if people want to buy gems for real money to get gold, then let them spend their money on pixels. I have 1700 gems and last time i checked, I would get 23g from all that. I would not spend enough real money to get 9500 g. I rather take my sweet time crafting my own legendary and let those with money buy them without me caring much about it. I know that I will feel better about my weapon, knowing that I crafted it myself.

No, they bought it with real life money, they just paid in a different way and threw in some of their free time as a deal breaker.
They bought the game, then they bought the right to work to get the item.
To me, paying monthly feels like being forced to play, and I don’t enjoy it. Thats why, I don’t like P2P model.

False statement.

I played in bRO, Brazilian Ragnarok Online, when it had only the subs model (no cash itens). One player paid R$5000,00 (something about 2500 US$) for JUST ONE CARD. Because it was a “legendary” card.

Even if someone just locks a legendary in an account, people will buy all this account with real money (most accounts in bRO today are “ebay” accounts, bought and sold freely). EVEN in the subs server.

Can I afford money-for-gems IRL or is it worthwhile doing in-game stuff for gold?

I personally think Legendaries should be accountbound on acquire, soulbound on equip. For now anyway.
Yes it really takes time instead of effort to make a legendary, but that’s no reason to just make it completely available to someone with money who barely plays the game. Previously you could already buy the mats, buy the precursor, buy almost all the things needed, except wvw badges, dungeon tokens and 100% map completion. If you don’t even take/have the time for these requirements, you don’t really deserve a legendary imo.
- Right, you need little over 1 million karma as well, takes quite a bit of time. To accomodate, I’d much prefer to make Mystic Clovers sellable. Then you need about 500k karma. Decent minimal requirement imo. Would prefer that over making legendaries sellable in their entirety.
