Q:
Why wont ArenaNet give us 1st Person View
Everytime I do a puzzle and get stuck in tight places with an that awful camera view, I ask this question. Why? Why? Why?
I am not asking for a “functional” 1st Person View like that in the upcoming Elder Scroll Online. I simply want a 1st Person View to explore and navigate tight spots when exploring the world and doing puzzles.
Is there any reason why ArenaNet would not give us this most simple yet most useful feature that requires minimum effort of their part? Do they simply enjoy torturing us…. torturing me?
That’s a pretty hefty claim for something that’s been asked for since first beta. I’d wager it’s a bit more difficult than you’d think.
People are indeed waiting for it but please don’t say such silly things. It makes you look rather uninformed. It’s probably on the list of Quality of Life improvements that are steadily getting into the game now.

And your comment sir marks you as totally uninformed because obviously you have no idea whatsoever about the technical “difficulty” involve in moving viewports.
Am I asking for a polished 1st person view? No. I am not. Just a simple/unpolished 1st person view would be infinitely better than what is currently being offered.
it was in beta if i recall wasnt it?
It was also in Guild Wars 1.

Hmm then rolling and dodging will make the camera spin like Mirrors edge….hmm…i guess after two hours almost all over NA and EU everyone will be puking!

I believe there is but it maybe unpolished – something like moving the camera into your toon’s head and not render your toon all.
(It can be seen in http://www.twitch.tv/pcgamer/b/320044809 Time Mark 3:18)
I would be happy with that – really. Because I wont be fighting or doing anything fancy in 1st person, I just want to be able to navigate better in tight places.

No, they dont need to polish it to do all that, that is not what I am asking or expecting. And it is not for combat, just exploring tight places and while doing puzzles. They dont have to stick the camera to the character’s eyeball or something. >.<

yea thats basically what GW1 had, it would be lovely for my hulking charr toons that cant fit in most of the jumping puzzles…

They had it in Guild Wars 1, where it served no purpose whatsoever. Now, when it would actually be useful, they leave it out. What the hell?
Layman Explanation:
Your avatar is an actor on a stage. If you go into first person view, the actor doesn’t need to be on the stage and therefore is not on the stage anymore. You now have a stage that is referenced in position to an actor that does not exist.
In a game like GW1 where there isn’t much in regards to how a player is going to move, it’s not a big deal. But now we have jumping, rolling, transformations, and more. With each of these actions comes a different point of view. Have you noticed when you use a Tonic or get Transformed that your screen jumps a bit? That’s because the “actor” that your screen is referencing it’s position from has a different height.
Imagine if you were in first-person view how annoying it would be when you dodge-rolled. Imagine what would happen everytime you went into mist form, the screen would do a little jump. How about Elixir S?
It’s not as simple as you’re making it out to be. You can’t just slap in an unpolished First Person View, especially when the entire render system is based on the position and relativity of your character, whom now does not exist as they are behind your viewpoint.
Actually you are very wrong on that.
They can scroll the view in just in front of your avatar. And make it a ‘Camera Position’ Rather then an ‘avatar Position’
As for the view changes due to environment, Dodge Rolling, Combat (Shadow Behemoth) That does not have to affect this view port change at all, as its just a camera show.
Does your screen roll around when you dodge now? No
Does your screen Bob up and down now when you move, drink potions…ect.? No
Does the Camera auto pane out when big event start, EX Shadow Behemoth, ? yes
The above would/will have no effect on a really unpolished simple First person view, which is quite literally the camera view changing and your avatar Fading out.
its simple programming, and changes in the camera settings (Client Bound). Anet could get this done in a weekend + 2 weeks of in house testing.

actually their is even a hack that gives you first person view but then again don’t use hacks its bad (its on youtube)
edit: if one person can make it into a ‘hack’ so it shouldn’t be so hard for anet to make it
