So he should just wait maybe one/two more years for it right?
ANet should just fix this asap, there’s no point in crafting it and I completely understand the OP.
All the people complaining about his point, hah, you’re just saying that because you haven’t made an expensive item and the same happened to you.

Um, I made the ascended quiver for the ascended, quiver of swift flight, function only (didn’t care about the look) and a few weeks later anet came out with the fractal ascended back piece. If they would have said that they were going to do that, and that it wouldn’t cost any gold, I would have waited, but instead I wasted around 100g on crafting a back piece that I could have gotten for free.

Was I irritated about if, sure, for about a day, then I just said “oh well” and got on with my life. I didn’t go and start complaining that it “cheapened” what I did…..I got what I wanted when I wanted it and it was my choice.

People who crafted Wintersbite got what they wanted when they wanted it. You don’t see people complaining about The Crossing/Arachnophobia/The Mad Moon do you? Those are craftable but cost way less to buy because they were out of a chest.

I would like to first point out that the ascended fractal back-pieces were introduced the same as ascended quivers and books.

That being said, the halloween skins The Crossing, Arachnophobia, and The Mad Moon only dropped from a chest for a limited time during a special event. Wintersbite was never a part of an event, and never dropped from a chest, until they decided to render the recipe useless and add it to Jormag’s loot table.

I recently discovered that the ice bow Wintersbite drops for the Claw of Jormag meta event. While I don’t oppose unique skins from dropping from such events, I find it insulting that such an item (one that could only be crafted from the mystic forge) now simply drops from an event.

I’ve personally crafted a Wintersbite, and spent around 250g to do so, but now its only worth 90g due to the number of them dropping. The worst part is the shortbow version, Wintersbark, doesn’t drop so is still around 250g.

Please remove Wintersbite from the Claw of Jormag loot tables, since you’re alienating those of us who crafted them before they started dropping, and defeating the purpose of crafting one in the mystic forge.

I 100% disagree with this. I believe all items should be droppable and that crafting at MF or purchasing them trivializes the item. Personally, I do not like crafting or MF and appreciate that I have the ability to gain these skins through the way I want to play the game.

In that case, they should make infinite light and mjolnir drop, and heck even legendary weapons should drop with your kind of attitude.

My point is not whether or not special skins should drop from meta-events, it’s that something that previously required time/effort to make, shouldn’t be rendered trivial and meaningless by simply adding it to loot tables where it was previously absent.

Just because you don’t have the desire/patience to craft a special skin doesn’t mean you should be able to obtain that skin for far less effort than everyone else.

I do think that Legendaries should drop :|

I may be wrong, but I imagine it was in the loot table, but the loot tables were buffed recently. This is similar to Final Rest.

I also never said it should be an easy drop, in terms of effort you could argue what takes more effort. I find crafting takes little ‘effort’ but is very tedious.

Also the same thing could be said about almost anything. For example, you should not be able to buy exotic gear off the TP, because it is easier to farm gold in CoF path 1 and buy a full set than it is to farm karma in Orr and buy it there. Is that also something you want, due to the fact that one method is way easier and trivialized those who farmed Orr for Karma gear?

This game already rewards people enough for random chance (aka precursor drops). Wintersbite and all other skins like it are suppose to be achievements, ones that you work for over a period of time. Allowing these skins to randomly drop takes away that achievement, since there was no commitment/effort in getting it.

As for your second point, yes there are multiple avenues to gearing a character, some more efficient than others, but while everyone should be able to gear their characters by playing how they want, not everyone should have access to cool looking skins, otherwise those cool looking skins would be meaningless (look at twilight/sunrise for example, so many people have it causing it to loose prestige).

OK so you are saying it should only be available through MF/Crafting, so that it keeps its prestige. You then say that Twilight and Sunrise have lost their prestige, even though both of them are only available through MF/Crafting. It seems like keeping it to MF/Crafting is not the solution to holding prestige.

I think that running Jormag takes more effort than MF/Crafting, and thus rewarding someone for doing Jormag makes more sense to me.

If you were to ask someone, “what do you think would take more effort, throwing a bunch of random stuff in a toilet or killing a dragon?”, what do you think their answer would be?

Yes, I did somewhat contradict myself. The point though, is that nobody is going to spend 250g (or farm the equivalent in mats) unless they really, really wanted the skin. Now that people can buy it for less than its actual value, more people can get the skin without as much effort/commitment.

I’m sorry but I completely disagree with this statement. I have run the Claw of Jormag event hundreds of times, and never gotten a single precursor or wintersbite drop. You cannot farm the Claw of Jormag event trying to get the skin, those who get a wintersbite are being rewarded for absolutely nothing, stupid random chance, which is not ok in my opinion.

If you were to ask someone, “what do you think would take more effort, throwing a bunch of random stuff in a toilet or killing a dragon?”, what do you think their answer would be?

It’s not random stuff that you throw into a toilet. It’s a specific recipe that you work for over time, again making it an achievement, not random dumb luck.

Not to mention this is the ONLY ITEM IN THE GAME that requires a gift to create that drops from a boss. Where are all the other items that require “gift of …” dropping? Not even the counterpart to this bow Wintersbark (which is the same skin, just a shortbow) drops anywhere. If ANET wants these items to drop, they need to make them across the board instead of trivializing the recipe.

Why don’t we limit everything to crafting, take away all chest drops so only certain players can make money…

The OP is ridiculous and deserves ridiculous responses, everything should have a chance to drop and everything should be craft-able, either should be viable…

Your logic is ridiculous and deserves ridiculous responses.

The fact of the matter is though everything isn’t droppable and everything cannot be crafted. There are certain items that can only be obtained from boss chests or recipes using the mystic forge. The fact that this item has both has made the crafting of this item pointless, and that is my problem with it dropping.

IMO crafting one of those is like being the dude that bought fastest video card the day it was released. It will always be the most expensive right after it comes out and will drop in price, probably significantly over time. There will always be a newer sexier skin. You should know right away that you are throwing money in the toilet. Besides how many people out there are willing to sink 250g into a longbow for their ranger?

First off, I really hate this “you payed more to get it first” ideology, it’s completely false, at least for GW2.

Secondly, you just stated my point exactly. “Who would be willing to spent 250g on a longbow”, that is my point. You should only be able to get the skin if you REALLY want it, and if you put the time/effort/commitment in to craft one yourself, otherwise you shouldn’t be able to get one at all (especially not for 150g less).

All the people complaining about his point, hah, you’re just saying that because you haven’t made an expensive item and the same happened to you.

Fix what? It’s not broken. He just doesn’t like having alternate routes to getting the item. So buy the company and you can tell them what to do. Buy the game and… not so much.

It’s not expensive, it doesn’t cost anything because they don’t sell it in the gem store. It’s just time consuming to gather the items to make it. Anet likes giving players options, so you can get the same equipment in different ways, like the stuff you can buy with laurels and also get in other ways. Or legendary precursors you can buy on the TP, get as drops, or make in the MF.

I think if you take a close look you’ll be able to obtain nearly any item through more than one source. If not the exact item, then you can buy, craft, or loot equivalent items. This would indicate that exotic or otherwise special items showing up as random loot was entirely intentional and thus unlikely to ever be “fixed” to your satisfaction.

How do you know that Wintersbite really dropped and someone didn’t just “ping” the item as a joke? How do you know that Wintersbark has never dropped anywhere on any server during any event ever?

You’re making a lot of assumptions without access to the information that any Anet employee could know if there was a reason for him to know it.

All I’m seeing here is you raging at the heavens because you feel that a random drop somehow reduces your special snowflake status for having a rare item. But legendary items are wanted by many people, who may or may not have put a lot of work into crafting it, and because a lot of people have them, you don’t think they are special.

The problem is not Wintersbite or how it is obtained, but the unhealthy attitude you have about it’s worth. The object itself is just a number in a database. What would happen if Anet mailed Wintersclaw, a longbow skin identical to Wintersbite, to every player at the conclusion of Flame and Frost? How would you feel if “your” special weapon were seen on every warrior and ranger running around Lion’s Arch?

It’s just a game, really.

Alright, let’s see where I’m getting all my information from.

First off let’s look at the forum post stating they got this item from Jormag’s chest.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/events/LIST-of-Chest-Drops-Named-Weapons

Right there are several players claiming they got it from the Jormag chest. Now let’s look at all the known unique exotic weapons that require gifts with their quantity that are available for sale and their current prices.

Foefire’s Essence
Supply – 10 Sell Price – 500g
Foefire’s Power
Supply – 4 Sell Price – 445g
Aether
Supply -5 Sell Price – 560g
Azureflame
Supply – 1 Sell Price- 550g
Eidolon
Supply – 0 Sell Price – n/a
Wings of Dwayna
Supply – 5 Sell Price- 459g
Feathers of Dwayna
Supply – 0 Sell Price – n/a
Wintersbite
Supply – 16 Sell Price- 94g
Wintersbark
Supply – 1 Sell Price – 295g
Mjolnir
Supply – 1 Sell Price -1950g
Volcanus
Supply – 17 Sell Price-445g

I want to also bring special attention to wintersbark. This is the exact same skin as wintersbite, but its a shortbow instead of a longbow. The materials for the 2 weapons would cost exactly the same were you to make them in the mystic forge.

Now if ANET wants these weapons dropping from chests that’s fine with me. That will reduce the cost of lodestones significantly for the gifts that need them (looking at you charged). However, if they just have 1 item dropping all they’re doing is making the recipe to create it pointless. Anyone who actually uses the MF recipe to create wintersbite is shooting themselves in the foot investment wise because they can just sell half their lodes and buy it straight from the TP.

Thank you for actually answering a question! Instead of posting “u no agree wit me, that mean yu stoopid.”

The quantity of most of the items you mention is low, so the sale price is whatever the few people selling them want to ask.

The quantity of Wintersbite is high, meaning that it is likely that several people have been underselling each other to make a quick buck. More competition leads to lower prices.

Speculators who got burned? Crafted the bow and realized that short bow/rifle was a better option? Market manipulation?

The evidence you present suggests that your theory is a possibility. It is not conclusive, however. Foefire’s Essence and Volcanus have similar quantities, for instance, do you claim that this proves they drop from champions, event chests, or some other method?

Perhaps someone is just dumping a quantity of items they hoarded after realizing that there are so many options they aren’t going to make a killing on anything except legendaries.

Somehow I doubt it’s as common a drop as all that and probably has such a low cost because it’s A: butt ugly, and B: a longbow, which is kind of crappy on the only two professions that can even use it.

LOL!!^

Anyway, this is good since we’ve been asking ANet to make these unique bosses worth our while when they appear in the world. So good news that these bosses actually do drop unique items, thanks for confirming that. I have to agree with Substance though, that longbow is hella ugly, why is that worth 250g or whatever it is now. Final Rest looks kitten than that deformed child plays snow longbow from the shiverpeaks.

Anyway, this is good since we’ve been asking ANet to make these unique bosses worth our while when they appear in the world. So good news that these bosses actually do drop unique items, thanks for confirming that.

The problem is, this is the ONLY mystic forge crafted skin (that requires a legendary gift) that drops from a meta-event chest. It seems unfair that only Wintersbite would drop and not other skins like Infinite Light and even Wintersbark.

why is that worth 250g

The reason it should cost 250g has nothing to do with the skin, but the recipe required to make it. The materials used to craft Wintersbite total around 230g

You can see the price here:
http://www.bravevesperia.com/

Final Rest looks kitten than that deformed child plays snow longbow from the shiverpeaks.

This is all up to personal preference, I and many others actually like the skin (Final Rest on the other hand looks like crap imo).

Perhaps someone is just dumping a quantity of items they hoarded after realizing that there are so many options they aren’t going to make a killing on anything except legendaries.

At any point in time up to March 1st there was only 1 wintersbite for sale on the market at any time. After that date the quantity of them on the market EXPLODED. That isn’t people underselling each other. No one is going to invest 100’s of gold into a bow when there are 20 others on the market and the counterpart (which is the exact same price in materials) is going for 300+g.

As for foefires essence and volcanus having similar quantities let’s look at the demand for these items.

Foefire’s Essence
Demand 327

Volcanus
Demand 461

Wintersbite
Demand 127

Let us also take into account what types of weapons these are. Wintersbite is a longbow. As such only 2 classes in the game can use it, Warrior and Ranger. On the other hand Volcanus and Foefire are both greatswords. There are 4 classes (half of the total in the game) that use a greatsword. I’d also venture to guess that greatsword is the most popular weapon in the game from my observations (twilight/sunrise anyone).

As for those 2 greatswords having high quantities and dropping the answer is a no. Those 2 items have always historically had around that number of listings since the recipes were discovered. Also there’s no one out there claiming that they’re dropping from boss chests. Whereas there are several others as i previously pointed out claiming the opposite for wintersbite.

There is no other conclusion then except that this bow is dropping from Jormag’s chest. Having it do so has rendered other in game mechanics for obtaining it (ie mystic forge recipe) obsolete.

Thanx for posting real facts instead of just reposting your opinions until people get tired of responding.

I agree it is likely that such a change in availability is the result of a “Final Rest” type correction, but I disagree that it is the only possible explanation. I also don’t see it as a problem, nor does it invalidate having multiple paths to acquire an item.

Regardless, it didn’t end up there by accident. It’s likely that more will follow.

i hate to reply to a thread as old as this one, but this item is still dropping from an event. i can’t confirm it’s @ jormag, but it has to be dropping somewhere; there are just too many consistently available on the TP in comparison with other items that require a gift to craft. not to mention how much cheaper it is to outright buy this item than it is to make. no other weapon that requires a gift to create is so much cheaper to buy in this regard from the TP.

Doesn’t seem like such a bad thing to me. I don’t see an obnoxious number of them out in the wild, so I don’t see any major harm in having an increased supply of them.

I can sympathize a bit with someone who paid the higher price right before the change, but as that was half a year ago, in a game that’s not quite 13 months old— I think it’s had plenty of time to stabilize and become the new normal. Forging it might not be very efficient now, but I think that’s probably okay.
