World chat
I think world-wide chat is probably a step backwards, given the usual quality of /map within towns (though of course, one could always turn it off). I’ve seen most adverts for Guilds to be in towns, especially Lion’s Arch. Perhaps you can hang there for a while?
Can they at least come up with a way to find specific players then? I feel like I’m playing in an empty building every time I load up this game and it’s starting to get depressing.
/map is a stupidity magnet. I don’t even use it anymore.

Make friends, join a guild. I have 30+ friends in-game and there are usually 5-6+ on at any given time.
+1
I think world (home-server only) chat with a cost of 10s per message or so is a good idea. We would just need Anet to react quicker to the “Spammer Reports” because I see the same people spamming gold sales hours after my reports – this could get really annoying if it were in World Chat.
10s per message is a bit high. I would rather see a gloabal chat channel available only after you are certain lvl for example 15 or 20. This would prevent botters from just creating a new char and spam again after getting their char banned.
A world chat isn’t a great idea for guild searching, just because of the possible spam, I mean guild spam and trade spam are kindier bad its just all attention is on the current gold spam.
A guild search feature could be fine, or bulletin boards for guilds to advertise.
Bumping this thread rather than starting a new one. I am soooooo for a global channel. The naysayers saying it would become a mess from goldsellers and guild recruiters I guess have not had the same experiences I have from a global chat channel. Yes, it does get ugly at times, but that’s when you filter it off. Coming from LOTRO, their glff channel (global looking for fellowship) was an excellent way of getting to know fellow players outside of grouping. The majority of the chat (on my server anyway) was looking for groups and people asking questions, getting advice. Oh, and much chatter about nothing important Spamming was nonexistant in it.
The ONE thing I feel that is missing in GW2 is a sense of community. For those of you in the huge guilds, I suppose this isn’t an issue, but I like my tiny little guild and won’t change.
I like the idea of it only being available to lvl 20+ characters, I guess, as a minor safeguard against gold sellers, hopefully by the time they hit 20 they are banned.
Community may possibly be the #1 thing that keeps people in a game. M chat just doesn’t cut it, you don’t see the same people day after day and feel like you know them.
In the end, if people hate the global channel, they can filter it off. Everyone is happy. An easy implementation to the game (I think?)
