As several classes in WvW have terrible movement speed relative to others, such as thieves, why not introduce an effect that boosts your speed if you are both out of combat, and on one of the roads, up to a cap of 33% increased speed counting other swiftness buffs such as, well, swiftness, or thief signet.

This enables people to get from point A to point B faster, while making people in a hury easier to predict. Off-road routes change from simply safer to slower and safer both. Small groups can easily just use a swiftness boon to remain just as mobile anywhere, while large groups are encouraged to use the roads.

This is exactly the function of guild road markers, which I have personally used to set up efficient roads for supply runners in WvW. In stead of a passive buff on a raod, its a flag that grants 30s of swiftness, and what’s better, it works regardless of combat. Road markers allow you to create a “road” anywhere you want, simply by dropping the flags 20-30 seconds (running time) apart.

It’s one of the first upgrades available to any guild, each flag lasts an hour and only costs 50 influence, and not nearly enough people use them in WvW simply because “the masses” usually run around in zergs where swiftness abilities fall from the sky like caffeinated rain, and people like to pretend they’re sneaky in groups of 20+ despite the opponent knowing exactly the two or three routes any group will take to get to any given objective.

In Summary: Get your guild to use road markers. Problem solved.

It is a nice idea and would give some gameplay options. But I would say mack roades give you a 10% movment speed boost when your on them. 33% would be a bit high.

It would give roads some reasone to be there. Becaus atm the only reason they are there is for the Dolyaks.

The idea i8s to make it 33% because that’s how much swiftness gives. It goes away the moment you enter battle. The core idea is to make off road mobility via swiftness buffs, signets, and other options more valuable, as the road often takes poor, sub-optimal paths, while still making people without speed boosts more able to join in on sieges. You can just as easily ditch someone by going off road if you have a speed boost. More people will be encouraged to take the road, making it easie to set up kill squads along the roads. And offroad mobility becomes a must of ambush squads as well.

But how would you handle NPC. Would they get it or not?

Dolyak’s. No. Breakout event. Yes. Guardposts. Does it matter, you can solo them with one hand tied behind your back. Supply camps and such are considered off-road areas.

If you really want to go the extra mile, tie it to the guardpost flag for the region.

great idea, would encourage people to go on roads and fun ambushes can be made available, different tactics can be made.if only wvw have thick woods and forests for guerilla warefare.

The terrain really should be rougher, shouldn’t it? As it sands, there’s only a few good places to set up a real ambush sadly.

It’s weird how the OP ignored your post. I guess it’s way too much work for some people to make a few clicks on the guild pannel or people just want to have the +33% for solo roaming.

+1 for you. Nice to see not everyone forget the “guild” part of Guild Wars 2.

Don’t talk to me about toughness and vitality, damage avoidance is all in this game

Also, sorry, it’s 20s, not 30. Still it’s one heck of a long swiftness and easy to set up for very little influence.

Also, these markers can be used by any ally, not just the claiming guild. Our guild doesn’t have the numbers, resources, or buffs to hold/upgrade structures usually, so I like that setting road marks gives even the smallest guild a way to meaningfully contribute to WvW.

I didn’t ignore his post outright. I read it. The issue is, even if road markers are effective, what does that do for the solo players, the players who don’t have an officer on at that moment, or the players playing with their friends instead of their guild at the moment.

It really doesn’t do anything. And it consumes building slots too. They’re good, and adding this doesn’t take away from road markers.

Please don’t make passive agressive insults like that.
