Would you like to see playable automatons?
asura’s bro i think as a racial elite they have robots you can play as
It’s not just for playing as. Personally, I’d love to see how their society developed around the fact that they are completely synthetic.
Robotic race in fantasy game feels to me like a race of faeries in a Science – Fiction genre. Sure – we have robots to some extend already, but they’re simplified. Reduced more to being tools rather than sentient beings. I dunno bro – somehow wouldn’t feel right to see one running around/jumping/dodging and casting fireballs/watery fountains/creating butterflies at the same time

I see your concern. However, I doubt it will feel too out of place if the robots themselves look properly dated. With steampunk-esque bodies made out of rusty metal and wood, I think it will feel right at home in here.
They would also be clothed in proper attire for the time.
Warforged say hi.
But I’d definitely be interested in playing a “robot” if for some reason they were released before the more obvious candidates (like Tengu.) I was always partial to steampunk.
The sentient construct idea was previously explored in the plane of Eberron in D&D by the introduction of the Warforged: http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Warforged
The only race to actually have the technology and level of magic able to create constructs this advanced in the game are the Asura, and at least according to the M.I.G. personal storyline the technology is not very stable at the time of the current story.

Playable Automaton, is that what an oxymoron is?
Charr could make mechs, Asura can make golems, Humans can barely make dolyak paks, Norn can make animal friends, and Sylvari are still ‘finding themselves’.
So your best bet for a playable would be to ask the Charr or Asura. Since we don’t know the tech/mech level of the Tengu, we wont know what they could provide to this conversation.
Well it can be simply explained as a extension of Asuran magic’s really. A long Lost race of Golems Lost to time and forgotten about of some long dead asuran who was trying to do more then create a golem to just serve but to live.

I would assume the Tengu are a fair way behind the other races, or at least on parr with humans but in a “different” direction. They wouldn’t have mechs. Considering their culture in GW1 I would assume they are a more familial and honour oriented culture and not one that would develop around technology like the Asura magi tech and the charr steampunk (autocorrect corrected steampunk as stew pink).
