Lets face it, almost no one cares about sPVP.

GW2 needs that competitiveness that will keep those competitive players interested because the winner of WvW is not detemined by skill.

The name of the game is GUILD WARS, why isn’t there cross server GvG Arenas?

I think ranking/leaderboard system that shows the skill of your guild would be appealing to many players.

Fully support the idea. It will actually create some rivalry between guilds, and seeing that your [XXX] guild on rank #3 of the world would be quite impressive, although you won’t have much impact on WvW due to your numbers.

Plus, it would be great fun, leading to advanced tactics and such.

GvG arenas either 10v10, 15v15, 20v20 without any stupid World of Warcraft pve obective BS would renew life into this game.

ARENAS ARE WHERE ITS AT ANET.

I mean come on, the name of your game is GUILD WARS and the name of your company is ARENA NET.

I fully support this.

My Guild has been one of the most active in setting up GvG battles in Tier 1 NA as far as i know, but every time, there are a lot of organizational problems that we have to contend with, along with queues, randoms running around the area, and the WvW battles raging around us.

Some might argue that this will split up the population and pull people away from WvW, but I would argue that, for the guilds that are already doing GvGs on a regular basis, this would speed up the process, allowing us to spend less time with organizational nonsense, and more time actually playing the game.

As an effective temporary Arena, perhaps Anet could use “The Bane” area in the Black citadel (Charr main city). It’s an open, circular Arena with plenty of room to fight, but small enough to keep the battles tight and intense. In addition, it’s an already implemented area, and already has the ability to be instanced through the personal story, so all that would need to be done is to add in some type of matchmaking system, a scoring system and voila.

For the record though, the “GUILD WARS” name is a Lore related name, for those who don’t know, so it’s not really a reason for implementing this, but i think that the game sorely needs an organized PvP game mode for more than 16 players.

I fully support this. Please give us two types of GvG fights with 10v10 15v15 and 25v25 options. One arena type map with no objective based fighting, and one landscape type map with strategic terrain objectives to accomplish. Also guild rankings would be great.

Great ideas Smokey, I totally agree, having a 2 mode system would be a really good idea (though i’m not getting my hopes up much, looking at sPvP). I still think that The Bane would be a good place for the arena matches though. They just need to add a score indicator, something that indicates the number of living players during the round, while preventing rezing from actual fully defeated state. A round counter would also be good, perhaps when setting up the match, it could be set up by the two guild leaders with, say, a best of 9 match.

Having an objective based mode would be really great, although significantly harder to implement. There’s really two ways that it could be done: 1) have teams take turns defending and attacking a tower or something. teams would each get ~20 minutes to take the tower from the other team and whichever team had the shortest time would win the match. If both teams took the full time, then some type of sudden death tie breaker would have to be implemented. 2) the other way would be more of a reset night on EB style “tower rush” where both sides start equidistant from a more or less symetrical tower/keep, and have to try and take it. Then maybe the team that loses at first has 5 minutes or something to take it back, and it goes back and forth until one team can take and hold the tower.

All in all, there’s a lot of potential for fun gameplay there, and a good thing for smaller guilds to do besides guild missions, which are quickly starting to feel like a chore. I just hope that if the DO decide to put in GvG, they don’t make it something you have to buy with influence xD

I noted that in an earlier post, but that still doesn’t change the fact that GvGs were a big part of GW1, and would be a great addition to GW2. Certainly far more lasting and useful than more random PvE events (although I might be biased…)

I would like sPvP more if there was some sort of objective based map similar to any of the Enemy Territory games (attackers much breach the beach wall, assault the radio station, capture the command post, move documents back to base. Defenders must stop them)

I agree with you, that they would be a good addition, despite the fact that I would not be able to participate in them because I am part of a “small family guild”. But at the same time, I really don’t think Anet is looking to implement any more large features, unless its in the form of a “payed-for expansion”.

Hope springs eternal i guess…

Seriously though, my entire purpose in outlining The Bane as an arena was to suggest a possible area to implement GvGs with minimal effort on Anet’s part. The zone is there, the instancing system is there, all that needs to be added is a setup system, a scoring system, and a spectating system (this is optional of course).

We’ll see, maybe with the new additions that they apparently have on their WvW team, we will see some WvW offshoot features based around more types of “mass PvP”.

GvG ranking would be awesome. I just went over to the GW1 website and took the attached picture of their “Competitive” section, and it still baffles me to this day how Guild Wars evolved into the game we have now.

Yeah they should improve the fps minigame aka spvp. Should be global too, guilds from any server able to clash each other, in a ladder system, tournaments, personal ladders too for even 1v1 and so on…

I mean sPvP is like no effort…its too simple even the code it is

I think that they lost sight of a lot of things when making this game. It’s a shame that even though GW2 has a lot of potential as a PvP game, it’s not being fully utilized because the developers believe that PvE is what the game should be built around, not PvP. This attitude has driven away most of the PvP players, while the PvE centric players have stayed around, making the community very PvE centric as a whole. Anet sees this, and creates more PvE content, it’s a vicious cycle that hopefully the March Patch will remedy somewhat.

They need to change sPvP too. I enjoyed GW1 PvP because it was a TEAMDEATHMATCH not some bullkitten point objective.
This is what people like to do.

If they implement gvg it better have some kind of Teamdeath match aspect rather than their current point capping nonsense.

Fully support this.

sPvP feels like some kind of introduction before taking on WvW where zerging tactics result in the winner. Guild Wars 2 should be more about, well, guild wars. I can think of many in the top list of Guilds, including mine in FA that would absolutely love something like this. Be it Guilds within the same server, or cross servers. GvG should have been in the game from Day 1.

The PvE aspect of GW2 is great, no question. But from a game titled Guild Wars from a Developer studio known as ArenaNet… You kinda expect there to be heavy involvement with Guilds waging wars with other Guilds in Arena sized battlefields, or larger maps.

Obviously you don’t play anywhere in Tier 1 or the tiers right below because it does take a lot of skill. Yes we need GvG, but take that sPvP crap elsewhere.

I think that pvp is just an unfinished product right now, they liekly have the goals your talking about already I just suspect that they are in the process of making it happen.

However I will say that spvp kills tpvp, there would be a lot more tpvp if there was no spvp, which to me would make things better.

It doesn’t take a lot of skill to win, it takes a lot of coverage to win. You’re confusing the two.
