I think one problem with squads in WvW is that hardly anyone (it seems) joins a commander’s squad, so any of the features he/she may have through it are lost. On top of the current system of left-clicking their icon on the map, how about when you are in proximity to a commander, a small window opens up asking if you would like to “Join <<insert name here>>’s Squad”. You then have a small indicator telling you whose squad you are in, an option to leave and maybe even how many others are in your squad.

This will make it more in your face and help newcomers to WvW who probably do not know about squads.

An addition, your squad’s commander icon changes color to distinguish from other commanders running around.

@Sean: when you join a squad, you see only your commander’s icon, not the others.

Tested this today, joined a commander’s squad and I could still see all the other tags on map…
