I think there could be improvements to the way you order an upgrade. As of now, when you order an upgrade in WvW, the person ordering it should pay the full price for it. It is working because some people are willing to pay, but it really feels kind of unfair, and when you know you would help your team by starting an upgrade but find yourself too broke to do so, it doesn’t feel so great either. Siege weapons have similar problems, but they are much cheaper(some of them at least), and you can get them with badges or from jumping puzzles.

So I was thinking if the upgrade npc could accept small amount of donations from many different players, it would feel much better for the whole team. If you’re not so rich, you could drop something like a silver or two and still know that you contributed. If you are one of the people who order an upgrade and just pay the full price, you can still do that by donating the full price.

This feature could also come with some additional changes. For example, you could donate badges instead of gold, or people could donate for different upgrades that they think is most needed, etc.

Some sort of upgrade bank I presume you’re suggesting? 20 people put X amount of money in. Then one person spends it.

I can see that working. Might be a pain if you’re with a group bundling to buy something and a pillock goes and uses it to buy something else.

Solution:
3 banks

General bank. Put money in. Anyone can use it.
Party bank. Put money in, only people in your party can use it.
Guild bank. Put money in, only your guild can use it.

I particularly like the guild bank Would help the WvW feel more organised.

If you need to select an upgrade to start accepting donations, (instead of collecting money first and then decide where to spend it) this might not be a problem.

Or, people could donate for a specific upgrade they want. If you want pot of oil, you put your 2 silvers in there. If your friend thinks we need walls first, he could put his 5 silvers in there instead. Whichever upgrade to collect the full cost first goes first. (kind of like voting, except the more you spend the more difference you can make :p )

Oh, and you forgot to mention this would get rid of the “Everyone send me 5s I’m going to upgrade the WP”-scammers who just run with the 1g or so they make as “Oh, sorry, there wasn’t enough people sending me silver and now I got to log out for some ridiculous reason”.

and it really sucks to hear that there are scammers, you might want to send donations only after the upgrade started.

If this is too complicated to manage, there could simply be a “Buy with guild funds” button that would take the money from whatever guild storage you have access. Since the guild storage can have multiple tiers, you can filter who can use it this way.
