WvW-Guild reward defending claimed objective
I agree, very well thought out post. It seems like everything is zerg zerg zerg. Instant gratification or bust. There does need to be more incentive for defending keeps, and there needs to be more reasons for guilds to ban together and defend, attack, etc. I do agree.

Good post, I`d also add a small gain to the influence for keeping objective defended. To sum up with yours a guild will have:
+inf gain every 15-30-60 min (2 for camps, 5 for keeps and so on)
+inf for defending objecive (x inf per member) + it won`t depend whether you defend your own or somebody else keep/camp
+inf for claimed objective (x inf per member) – should be more inf than when defending.

Personally I fully believe that your kharma and exp gains hould shrink depending on how many people are in an area. 70 people attacking a small outpost should net zero exp/kharma…there is no difficulty there AT ALL with such a force so there should be no reward.
A group of 10 doing it? They should net the reward.
Empower and suddenly spawn guards if overwhelming forces (ie zergs) appear at the small camps. 70 people show up? Suddenly the camp guard is as strong as Jormag’s Claw and starts two shotting people (dead bodies of enemies continue to count as “alive” for as long as they are in range of the camp for purposes of this). If it isn’t as severe as that then double the guards and make them all at dungeoun silver mob status with perminant stability. Note: these buffs don’t exist if the attacking zerg is met by an equally strong defending zerg, the empowerment is ment to balance out the overwhelming numerical advantage.
Defending (even if you lose) should net a reward.
These changes would destroy the zerg mentality and quickly get people into a defense mindset and an “attack with apropriate numbers” mindset. The zerg mindset isn’t even remotely fun, no matter which side of it you are on. It is BORING to just steamroll over other realms, and it is just frustrating to be unable to fight in WvW due to being outnumbered severely. It is really time they make some huge changes that punish the zergs and encourage small group attacks on the small places and only encourage zerg strategies on the keeps.

the intent of this post is not to end with zergs since they are a natural part of WvW. The post is intended to discuss guild rewards for defending claimed objectives in terms of guild recognition with 1 and guild influence with 2. Questions about diminuishing returns with army numbers is another issue and should be discused in another topic. The objective is not to end zerg activity but to increase guild activity.
Well first of all, you do earn influence to your guild by defending as there is the defend event that is going on all the time. The thing is, it is bloody hard to earn a gold medal out of it.
First of all, if you destroy siege and repair and build up more siege → No reward for you at all.
Secondly, if you keep shooting with siege on enemy and suppressing them like hell, not actually killing much but doing tons of damage → Bronze (just becouse you killed 1 or 2)
So thats pretty much what is problem with the defense event. Its really easy to get the gold medal from capture events. You can enter the ring on the last second and get the gold medal out of it. I have done this a lot of time when I see a camp is being captured (I haven’t involved to the said capture by any means, I just arrived there), I just quickly get into the ring and tada, I get gold medal.
If it is so easy to get gold medal from capturing, why is it so hard with defending? Surely if you keep repairing the walls and making siege in the vicinity of the keep/tower/supply camp, you should get a reward. You are involving to the defense.
And to that influence gain for guild if its being defended. Well, why not, as long as your guildies are inside in it. Becouse if that is the situation that the guild gets influence, it would mean that guilds just rush in to claim it without a though. Atleast on non-organized servers. And if you actually need guildies to be defending it to get the influence then it kind of nullifies the defense event already.
So the fix here should be actually the defense event for now. Showing the tag of the owners would be nice too. On map it would be nice, but its needed atleast on Banners when hovered over. Even if its enemy you should be able to see the tag.

There is a different problem with the defending event. It is very hard to get it when playing normally and smart. But there is an easy way to get it. Just repair a wall or gate. the fact that this does not help at all when you are under attack and only serves to weaken your defence capabilities doesn’t stop some people from wasting supply on a wall that will fall down again in a second anyway just to get that event.
So if there are ways to get the defending event make sure they are not exploitable in a selfish way please.
