This won’t hurt [Much]
Ring of Fire
Loitering at crafting stations or at trading post agent is frowned upon by the WvW community. It would be all good if there weren’t player limits on the maps. Now the idlers are taking up spots from WvW players.
Suggestion
Remove crafting stations and trading post agent from citadel.
I haven’t seen anyone use the crafting stations and they seem totally out of place to me, so I understand that. I wouldn’t care if they left. I’d like to keep the TP agent though, as I use it often to grab a new sigil, or better armor/weapons for a leveling character, etc.
i agree with Sitkaz. I’d like to keep TP and add bank(for pick up gold for repair or upgrades)? but remove crafting stations.
i agree with zinjin about agreeing with sitkaz
… or something…
I’m going to have to go ahead and agree with linguistically about agreeing with zinjin about agreeing with me, because it makes me giggle.
I’ve only ever used the Garrison craft stations for their bank access, but there ARE reasons for a trading post to be useful (especially now that people buy and sell siege on it).
As for loiterers, they don’t actually NEED a craft station to loiter at. If they’re going to stand around in the garrison and take up space, they’ll do it. Maybe they’ll be at the siege merchant, where you can think they’re doing something useful. Maybe it will be at the repair. Maybe they’ll just stand on the waypoint itself.
The only REAL way to discourage loitering in WvW is to implement the same timeout clock used in sPvP, rather than the normal PvE wait. (It would also put an end to the plague of “corpse spies”. They don’t ALWAYS leave when I start telling jokes with the Mad King scepter.)
Although perhaps the sPvP timer is TOO limiting; some of the legitimate dead would take issue, certainly. (Especially in the JP.) 90 seconds is fine in fast-paced sPvP matches, but WvW tends to draw things out a bit more. Hmm. Five minutes? That sounds ideal to me. On the battlefields, any battle that lasts long enough for that to be an issue, you would have already been back faster simply by warping out and running back. And in the JP, well… nothing’s perfect. If people are in the area, they’ll get you within five minutes, but you can no longer wait very long for random passersby.
So, yeah. Change the timeout timer to 5 minutes in WvW, and it will do much more to stop loitering than merely removing services.
Crafting stations are only available on the home borderland and as such I found them to be very convenient in cases where I had to quickly access my bank without the need to sometimes spend 10s just to use waypoints. I use them when I play WvWvW but also on occasions where I just need to do crafting/selling/accessing my bank. Removing them would be pointless in my opinion because at least they provide some convenience to people who actually enter the borderland to do something useful (for them at least) – if people want to fill in the spots they can just as easily stand on the borderland waypoints.
The timer proposal is also pretty bad in my opinion because currently I find myself often threatened by the existing timer which tells me to “become active” although I am doing some stuff like crafting or interacting with the bank.
The only real solution for this problem is for ANet to find a way to increase the number of available slots for borderlands. No point in introducing some artificial solutions which might also not work at all.

Players who are not even remotely interested in WvW queue up and join WvW because it provides easy access to merchant, bank, TP and crafting station.
Either remove those services from WvW or provide even easier way to access the services outside WvW. As we have seen waypointing to Lion’s Arch and then travelling back is too much effort and cost for PvE players.
I would be happy with PvE players heving access those services anywhere, anytime, for free and immediately BUT outside WvW queues. For example put those into player’s home instance with free of charge waypoint and a return to where you were portal.
I disagree.
I don`t want to have to go to lags arch just to craft something for someone I know in wvws only to have to re-enter & waste time running back to where I was in the first place.
You can level in wvw though, crafting is something people do while levelling :p

Simple solution would be to put those services in heart of the mists.
Id say put them in garrison and SM, just for something to do while they defend. Saying that they give us a real reason to defend a keep.

The problem with that is that if a matchup is not entirely balanced (happens a lot with the new system) some servers would completely be cut off of using those stations in WvWvW.
yes, the point is, currently, why do we capture locations if we are not seriously or have no reason to defend a keep? So we can watch the leaderboard grow? I like WVW because it can be a stress reliever, but there is no reward or reason to take it seriously. DAOC HAD this art down, and I was proud to be Percival Hibernia ( Underpop underdog) and part of that community. Dont get me wrong, my GW2 community is a nice community.
I know that orbs are coming back, and depending on that, might give reason to defend a keep, means you will have to place sitters there, what a better way then craft stations.
As far as the underpopulated problem, maybe our energy shouldnt focus on removing craft stations, but suggesting that they make reason or rewards to go to underpopulated servers.
Fact right now is, WVW is. being treated more like a minigame, rather then creating a reason to help your world.
I don’t agree with idea of totally removing crafting station – If I had to wait some time in the queue to my borderland and I have to craft something (for example I just dropped from my enemy last material I need to make new armorpiece that I will need here) I don’t want to leave borderland just to craft it and have to wait for queue.
also for now that is only “always up” acces to bank – of course we can have it in every keep/tower – but to have it we need to keep that structure long enough to get those upgrades, and then people have to defend it – and while i’m on server that have much difficulties with defending structures…. (when It comes to defending we are overwhelmed – we need to be on offensive to have a chance to keep our ground while fighting in that higher part of our enemy range)
