You don’t have to participate to get it. The only issue you’ll run into is if your server is terrible.
I totally agree. Please take WvW out the the world completion achievement.
+1 to this idea. Separate anything mists from PVE completely. I’d even recommend PvP items for WvWvW.

Another +1, my server don’t have a high enough population to do well in WvW, in fact, they do very poorly. The WvW map is not even on the PvE world map anyway, why does it have to be a part of world completion?
Don’t like this either, but what bothers me the most is that you don’t just have to wait for a bit to get the spots on the eternal battlefields (which should take some time too, especially bcs blue is totally dominating our wvw) but that you have to do EVERY homeland. i mean cmon. they’re all the same. i enjoyed getting 100% on most maps, but i really don’t wanna be forced to do the same map 3 time, especially if the 2nd and 3rd time are way harder.
so please remove wvw from it or at least don’t make us do stuff three times
Add me to this list too, and I LIKE WvW. I just think its wrong to have it as part of the completion.
On the surface, its a great idea because it gets everyone into WvW and while they are there a fair few folk are finding they like it, and staying. So kudos for that part.. But there are many people out there who just dont like any kind of pvp in an MMO such as this and why should they be ‘forced’ to do it to get completion.

The ONLY thing I have against the wvw and world completion is that they make you explore 3 maps that are the exact same thing, 1 should be enough, or make them different.
But if it should be included? idk… But the thing is that they are and if you want to do the achievement then do it the way it is and if you don’t want to do it this way, then just don’t. Nobody is forcing you to do it, just as nobody is forcing you to do anything else in the game, you are not required to have the world completion to access any content at all.
Besides, exploration has never been defined as a purely pve thing…

Separate it between Mists Completion and World Completion and we’ll all be happy. I’m having a hell of a time getting just the POI in WvW and my server is doing pretty good. Can’t do the jumping puzzles without a zerg for backup so I doubt I’ll ever get those done either.
Most PvE players I know have it, it’d be unfair for current players not to have done it. I disagree with this.
Meh, both sides have a point. The goal of making WvW part of a PvE requirement is to get people to try it. However this is already done through the legendary weapons, so it’s a little overkill.
Something I would prefer would be a best of system. Keep the world completion requirements the same as far as vista, skill points, ect, but let more maps count for them. For example, finding points of interest in your dungeon maps will count towards your map completion totals. This makes it easier to add in new areas without changing the achievement requirements.
Those who want can do the WvW maps and have them count for their completion, and those who don’t can do other maps to fill up their requirements. This way both sides win.
Its not a huge issue but I would prefer if it was separate as well and I think WvWvW should be using your pvp gear.
I got all the 4 battlefields and I agree with this suggestion/I don’t think it’d be unfair to me if the requirement was removed. It seems strange to force people to go through a PvP area – even if actual participation isn’t required – to get things you would use for PvE too. It’s especially bad if your server does very poorly (I only got all areas this week because Maguuma is winning its tier) and you can’t reach certain areas.
I already find it bad enough you need WvW kills for monthly achievements – needing WvW map completion for 100% map completion is even worse, since with a zerg you can get your kills, but people rarely explore and you often end up doing it alone, making you a sitting duck for people for other servers if you’re not interested in the PvP aspect.
I’ve posted a similar thread about this same issues. I have been trying to accomplish my last 2-4% of the world complete in the same amount of time spending my fist 96-98%. It is a really bad way of “making” people play wvw. And for the one saying “it’s a part of the legendary” just don’t get it.
There is already a part for that, collecting all the non dropping badge of honor. And to make wvw in monthly as well is good enough. I think people that want to play wvw would like this to. Not having “world completers” taking anothers spot. So either take “world complete” away from one of the steps for a legendary or just see the problem and rid us pveplayers the need for doing this.
And I disagree with the one saying it’s for introducing the wvw. Rather then fun, I only get angry and frustrated. I don’t have time doing this when I need to farm like crazy in Orr for my legendary either.

Never a good idea! I’m not a completionist but it’s cheap to require pve players who hate pvp to do anything WVW that is the path that Aion went down and quite a few others and that’s how they lost so many players all at once, because people stopped playing do to being forced into pvp for the progression that was normally supposed to be pve only. So what do you get when you reach 100%. Good gear, globs, etc things you do actually need in the game, this needs to change ASAP.
So far post game launch Anet has not shown me they have the leadership skills to run the game properly. DR, MF miscalculations, nerfing cond/healing into oblivion, not immediately separation pve/pvp skill coding so pve’ers dont suffer while pvp is balanced, adding ascended armor (notable if it is a dungeon only progression set as it appears to be) the list is growing. It’s really starting to get scary.
I joined the french server, now i’m stuck at 97% cause the french can’t cap anything besides the spawning point.

I also agree with separating PvE World Completion- and Jumping Puzzles- from WvWvW. It completely tanks to be a few steps from a hard to get vista or achieving a jumping puzzle and get cut down by people who just want another fricking point in an achievement or whatever. I would rather not touch WvW or PvP at all, but here I’m forced to… AND IT IS NOT FUN AT ALL, MERELY FRUSTRATING.
I agree with it. I’m only PvE player, and im not alone. I want to finish monthly achievment every month, but when I see that i must kill X players in WvWvW with my low-end PC, so i can’t. I tried it, but when i’m in combat i can’t do anything. Please, please transger this “achievment” to PvP daily, please.

This utterly screws the low pop/low tier Wv3ers…
I’m on a high pop server (its almost always full) and my server’s tier is 1 or 2…not sure which but I don’t support the concept at all, everyone should have the ability to complete their maps. Not just those high pop servers who can steamroll and make it safe to get the completion.
I couldn’t agree more. My stance is that PvE and PvP should be entirely separated in this regard. Not having WvW discovered entirely is what’s keeping me from completion, and I simply don’t like playing it. My server does poorly as well, so it’s just a bad situation.
Please consider changing this.
Please separate WvW from World Completion. I dont like pvp/wvw, and my server having not best times in WvW . I have run all around map, died bunch of times and still was able just to get most simple poi/skill/vistas, there is no way i gonna take castle myself O_O.
Please make it fair or more reasonable, cause now its “blocking progress”.

It’s like people asking to get legendary weapons easier: you’re not required to get these
legendary weapons, they are not in any way better than exotic weapons, in fact they’re worthless for offensve builds since they don’t have critdamage or even precision.
They should be insanely hard to get, because what else is the point? Everyone would
run around with a legendary weapon that way, making them hardly worth the term
legendary.

I would rather they include new zones in the map completion, at least that makes sense.
Here we have 100% world completion but then add more zones to the world that for some reason don’t count on the world? really? Put Southsun Cove in the world completion, at least it’s part of the real world map and not some mists map that doesn’t exists on the real map.

@OP I understand where you’re coming from on this.. but I am still torn on if I agree or not. It’s understandably frustrating for lower population servers or servers with out a strong core WvW group to get map completion. For that reason only would I +1 this idea.
As someone else stated, maybe 1 borderland(since they’re the same map) and Eternal would help ease the frustration.

One problem with this however, is that it’s not insanely hard for everyone. Before ANet implemented the 7 day wait to move servers, tons of folks (everyone I know who plays) simply bounced to the top tier server, grabbed their map completion, then popped back all in a day. Since they got it easy and that’s not possible now…where is the balance? Should they be banned for exploiting? Should they lose their map completion and anything they gained from it and have to earn it the way everyone else now has to?
No they shouldn’t. But players on servers who don’t do well with PvP shouldn’t be punished either.
They should just keep the requirement and just let folks who don’t want to have to do any PVP, opt out during map completion. Meaning they enter the map and I dunno, select a “Map completion only” button and they can’t be attacked by other players or attack them either. They wouldn’t be able to build, or repair or anything related to the server scores. They can just gather, map complete and get attacked by mobs not related to WvW events.
I also want it removed. It is bad for both WvW players and PvE ones.
Also no other maps in the Mists are needed.

Legendary Weapons are supposed to indicate, among other things, you really HAVE done it all, got the T-Shirt, and a metric crapton of other loot and karma. Once a large portion of the luck is worked out of precursor acquisition, all that will be left for legendaries to live up to their namesakes is the feats of the character who crafted them, and things like overall world completion and karma are good indicators of a character who has done a great many things in order to earn something “legendary”
That said, I don’t see an issue with a separate achievement specifically for PvE world completion, with an accompanying title.

You need gifts from WvW badges + gift for 100% map (with WvW) for legendary, so why would you take it off World Completion? Very very bad idea, completely ridicolous in my eyes. This does not give players a reason to actually participle in WvW. They either explore each map when the team is winning or transfer to a winning one get it done and transfer back. Why would you want people who don’t want to be there, they will not help at best and will get in the way at worst. There needs to be REAL incentives to WvW but the fact is no matter how hard you try not every on will like it. It is a different playstyle.
I disagree, this is a PvP/WvW game, it is NOT just a PvE game. It is focused on player battling. Did you not read the game description?
I’ve completed the mapping there, done the monthly kills, but still need to get credit for the jumping puzzles. I’m a PvE type although I enjoy WvW occasionally. I wouldn’t consider it unfair to me if they modified the WvW requirement on the mapping.
My suggestion is that they move WvW to another achievement category. Have the WvW map, kills, and JP on that separate achievement. The advantages of this would be that people not interested in participating in WvW won’t be taking up spots in the queue, they could add a larger variety of WvW activities into the achievements, and those who like having tasks to complete could have more available to them.
I hate dungeons and yet I have to do them for the monthly. Same difference. Sometimes, if you want something in life, and it is important enough to you, you do things you don’t like. I hated the Mad King’s Clock Tower. I wanted the achievement. I spent hours doing the stupid thing and finally got it. Yeah, it got easier the more I did it but I still never liked it. I wanted the achievement though so I did it. Many people have done the map completion so it is possible. It isn’t supposed to be easy.
This has become more of an issue now that free server transfers have a week long cooldown. It is an annoying aspect of the achievement system but in reality is hardly more annoying than some of the other achievements that are more based on patience than skill.

I agree with this mainly because wvwvw isn’t really part of the map. You can’t walk to it like you can every other place on the pve map. You teleport into it and who knows where it is actually located.
Why can’t we have a main world completion, a wvwvw completion, and those who have done both get a both worlds completion achievement and reward?
I am stuck at 99 cause i miss one point of interest and one vista.
I was waiting for Friday’s rotation so i can visit these places but unfortunately we got the same map we had last week.
my server ranked up so we have alot of competition atm and its almost impossible to capture those places.
I don’t know if WvW map completion should be removed or just get limited to your homeland places.
I’ve got 100% completion, and I still think the WvW requirement should be removed. WvW players shouldn’t have to do PVE content to get the best weapons for WvW, nor should they have to wait longer in queues because of explorers who aren’t participating in the battle. PVE players shouldn’t have to WvW to get rewarded for what is otherwise a massive amount of PVE content.
The problem here is that people feel compelled to get the pve monthlies but don’t like one particular aspect of it. WvW will always be a pve zone no matter how you look at it (the fact that your pve char has pve gear/skills/traits/etc already says alot). Sorry, you can’t have your cake and eat it too.
This has nothing to do with the monthlies. At least the people doing the WvW monthlies are actually doing WvW. The people just going for map completion probably aren’t participating as well as they could be; chances are they’re actively trying not to.
And if you genuinely don’t see why a zone designed for competing against other players is, by definition, PVP, then I can’t really help you there.

I agree, take it out because it technically is part of the Mists; which is not part of Tyria; Tyria is a fragment within the Mists.
I also would love to see a rotation of maps; seeing how each world has a virtually identical map and then Eternal Battlegrounds. Maybe Blue would be more of a northern theme, Green could be more of a jungle, and Red more of like an Ascalonian theme?

I hated every part of the time I had to spend in wvwvw for map completion. So I server hopped to the server with the biggest night crew.
After a full month of going nowhere with completion I completed wvwvw on 2 charachters in 1 night. After completion I switched back to my original server.
The system is broken and its not fun please remove it. It also made me change my playing style I went twice for 100 procent, now I just go from personal story to personal story with side ways exploration for unlocking dungeon maps on my other characters. No way in hell am I going to go back in wvwvw until need I the tokens for my legendary or the hour and a half monthly zerg fest.

So as I’m pounding my head on my keyboard seeing the WVW map all the other server’s colors and the 3 hours an alliance of pretty much the only active pvp guilds spent to capture a place only to lose it 3 minutes later… Anet commented any about removing this?
Because really all this requirement does is force people to change servers, which I don’t want to do, but am now seriously considering… (hoping they don’t remove server transfer because that would kill any hope of ever getting 100%)

This man wins. Although from the perspective of language and definitions, you would technically be obligated at absolute most to explore just your own borderlands. ;P
But overall I agree, no harm in 100% map completion without WvW, as to those Gifts of the Traveler, make 100% of both be required, or even just 100% of WvW for those specific things.
The “this isnt a xxx centric game” and such, You can enter WvW at level 2 and never actually do any other pve content ever with that character, even eventually getting an armor set that is only available afaik though wvw tokens. SIMILARLY you can make your pve character and never ever ever set foot in anyplace at all ever where another player is your opponent in combat, and there is no need to penalize either group as again, THE MISTS aren’t really a part of any “world,” unless you want to subscribe to a belief where all servers and the mists are part of 1 larger world in which case you would need to explore every zone fully on every server in the US and EU, to include all possible wvw combinations, all spvp, and all points in every dungeon, etc on every single server separately for 100% completion of “the world.”
Back to those borderlands; This one I am on the fence about to be honest, while yes, they are 3 identical maps, in any given setup there are very small differences, the largest of which is ofc, the fort from which your server loads into… Other than the annoyance of doing the exact same zone 3 times on 1 character, this does force the issue that anyone who wants completion currently will be forced to put a crew together to go take down towers and keeps that are very hard to hold onto, which could be given as the idea.
One other thing that could alleviate a lot of it without changing much might be to put all the fort/tower and castle points somewhere else that people can reach them, this will still pull them into the zones to get their feet wet, but it also doesn’t exclude anyone who happens to play on a server that basically shuns WvW, or lock them away from easy access to friends for a week waiting on the server xfer to become available again.
