So lets look at the main WvW boons for a moment.

Orb Of Power
Each Orb of Power grants the owning world a 5% boost to maximum HP and 50 bonus points to all stats.
This means that if one side is already winning, they get a buff to make winning even easier. That is not balanced.

Outmanned
+20% Magic find
+33% Experience
+33% Karma
How does this in ANY WAY help even the playing field when outmanned? Are you saying we should just start farming some PvE while in WvW? Because if we are outmanned, we wont be taking many towers, let alone keeps. This is worthless.

So, on one hand you have a boon that buffs the winning side to make winning easier for them, and the other you have a boon for the side that has a much lower fighting force, that does absolutly nothing to help them.

Let each orb give 8% MF, 12%Exp and 12%Karma.
Let the outmanned buff become flexible and proportional to the average difference between each side. Meaning if Green has 2x and Red has 1.5x the amount of players Blue has, the average would be 1.75×. Take this and apply it to the outmanned boon in some way to make the playingfield fair and dependent on skill rather than numbers. Have this update with every new player that joins so its always even.

That is actually hilarious.

So if you are out-manned the enemy is probably getting +15% health and +150 to each stat. You are getting 33% karma 33% experience and 20% magic find. Which yields you… nothing when you are camped in your spawn. GG

Back to Planetside 2 beta. Where 500 v 500 v 500 happens everyday with no invisible armies.

Exactly. Its ridiculous. I really hope they switch it. It would make getting the Orbs more worth it and when outmanned make it harder for teams to be dominate on off hours. Balance.

Anet has said several times that WvW isn’t intended to be balanced. They have a ranking system to help prevent servers that are really good from dominating poor ones.

as far as the outnumbered thing goes, even if you’re being totally dominated by a server you should still be able to muster enough to capture some supply points. I’m happy to get extra stuff when I’m the underdog.

Lets say ANET lucks out and somehow the three worlds are balanced against each other in terms of skill/gear (the goal of the ranking system). At some point, one of them will get lucky and grab another orb. Instantly they become more powerful, meaning the balance is lost.

That’s the point of orbs, to make them important enough to want to keep, protect and obtain. It’s to tip the balance in your favor. The out manned buff is a bit silly though, it doesn’t do much for you and I’ve never notice it really help even when we took a tower and some supply points with it active. Unfortunately WvW is SUPPOSED to be the strong get stronger and the weak get pushed into the gutter, it is supposed to simulate a war after all.
So basically, Orbs are fine but the out-manned needs to be “fixed.”

I’m pretty certain people would still want to keep and get them if they provided the outmanned boon. So your point doesnt really mean anything here.

That’s the point of orbs, to make them important enough to want to keep, protect and obtain. It’s to tip the balance in your favor.

Why not make the orbs give a bonus to how fast your server earns points ?
Either a flat increase, just like keeps, towers, etc or a multiplier on the points from everything else you hold. That would keep them as something valuable to hold, but you wouldn’t have an easier time taking/holding territory just because you hold the orbs.

It would also add some strategic element to them. Now, they are always worth grabbing because they make everything else easier. But with a point bonus, there may come situations where taking the orb earns less points for the same effort as capturing towers.
