In my opinion, as of right now, Guild Wars 2 does not have enough different kinds of currencies to keep the players playing. So, that got me thinking… ANet is going to implement ascended items in to WvW sometime, so there could be a great opportunity to introduce the players with….
[PRISTINE Badges of Honor]!!!
They would be ultra rare and the players could only get one of them per 10 hours as a drop from Dolyaks!
The costs could be like: Ascended boots = 100 [Pristine Badges of Honor] (this is just an example).
Another way to introduce these could be having different Pristine Badges of Honor for different armor pieces. For example Pristine Badge of Boot Honor.
Hm right, exotic has no advantage over exo too, i wonder why everyone uses it instead of running yellows?
Or hey, yellows aren’t that much better than green either, why don’t we all run in green?
Or hey, wait, how about we add even another tier next month or wait, why not another 2 tiers, called epics, with the new expansion?
Or wait, why don’t we make this game even more gear treadmill? WvW players are not allowed to get stuff without grinding!
That is because the mentality is that Exotics are above yellows therefore if I have Exotics I will melt my opponents face.
Example
I play a warrior in all ( at the time ) 70 – 78 yellows that stacked MF ( as I was farming on that toon ) but I needed Map completion so off to WvWvW I went. I came across another warrior that had the full Arah gear on ( exotics) and Twilight ( legendary). our first confrontation I won it was a close battle but I won. I ended up in roughly about 3 hours of running around seeing him a total of 5 more times ( or at least someone that looked like him ) and won 5 more match ups on him 1 v 1. Now I am not saying I can do this to every player in the game that player just sucked is what it boiled down to.
By all means, and by most players mentality that other warrior should have melted my face off before he could take his 5th breath. but because my skill was better than his regardless of my gear I still won every match up.
Gear is cosmetic, Ascended gear is mainly aimed to Fractals and nothing else, as it has infusion slots in it which you need for agony resist, ergo there is no real need for it in WvWvW. Not saying you can’t use it in WvWvW just there is no real reason why you need to make a system to gain ascended gear through WvWvW. I mean Luarel Ascended gear is boarder lining the fact of not needed, but at least it is a closer simile than Mass PvP.
I dunno, the Laurel Ascended Celestial (all stat) rings and ears in my opinon are a nice upgrade from the exotics. Is it needed, prolly not, but they are nice upgrades. Also, if magic/gold find is your thing, the utility neckless gives a nice boost with the adornment.
I’d be fine with this if we could trade regular badges in for ascended crap, but only for a very high amount. I’m sitting on nearly 3k badges and don’t know what to do with them. What can I say? I like killing people.
The badges need to be converted to pristine badges in my opinion or you could just lower the cost of exotic badges and then require like 500-750 badges per ascended item.
I’m fine with that as well. Atleast i’d have a use for all the badges that keep piling up. I’ve been saving them hoping there will be another use for them at some point in the future. right now i just currently use them to buy siege equipment instead of spending money on it, but by the end of the day I usually break even or earn back more than what I spent.

Fun anecdote! But I prefer statistical facts. Someone with full ascended is X% stronger than someone without.
I think it’s awesome that you defeated a PVE champion in full Arah armor in a Player vs Player battle. That is very relevant to the topic.
The fact of the matter is someone who is naked can beat a terrible player in full ascended gear. We don’t care about that. We’re talking about top tier WvW where the skill bar is about even. GEAR MATTERS.

What we need is a new currency that you need to use to buy the daily acheivements for the day, so you gotta farm 50 of the new currency before you can do your daily!
Then need another currency between influence and guild merits as theres not enough of them there!

Last time I checked you need player kills to get badges of honor. Last time I checked it takes longer/harder to farm 300ish badges (whatever 1 pieces of gear costs.) than it does to run a fractal 10+ daily or knockout your daily laurel…
You can fight it all you want but ANet already said ascended gear will be just as accessible to WvW players as it is to PvE players. I mean it’s not even PvE gear. It’s just gear. It’s not fractals > WvW. It’s fractals = WvW.
And how is getting a laurel work? lol I can knock out the daily in under 30 minutes… You won’t even farm 50 badges of honor in 30 minutes. WvW is actual work. Laurels are casual play. A casual system built for casual gamers to put in 30 minutes a day and get the best gear in the game.
So sad the direction this game chose to go.

Actually I do not just “ant walk” when I play WvW. Do you, tom.7468?
And yes, I do want my ascended items without “work”, since I do not play games to work. I work to work, and play to play, if you get my drift I don’t need to get them immediately, but I do want a lot of different stat combinations (so many ascended pieces of the same item type) and with laurels that’d take me… about… the whole year

If they made some drastic changes so wvw was about individual skills then i would love this but its not like that. Permastealth theif is the only counter to coward sheep herd play in wvw. And therefor so many come on the forum and want it nerfed. but right now the game favor numbers over everything else in wvw and the rewards should be there after period.

Tom your argument is weak and invalid. Guild missions are a worse offender of a numbers game than WvW. WvW is spontaneous and both sides can be liquid and the battles can flow all over the map.
Guild missions (bounty specifically) you fight a boss in a confined area where it uses the same tiny skill set over and over. Just like all other ANet open world content you just zerg him down and collect your ascended gear.
Like I said. Your argument is weak.
EDIT: I still don’t understand why people play anything other than WvW in this game. It’s the only thing that is truly GW2 (even though it borrows heavily from DAoC and Warhammer Online). Everything else has been done by someone else and better.
But if that’s your thing, more power to you. However, WvW shouldn’t be held back because faceroll PvE wants all the good rewards. And I shouldn’t be forced to go roll my head across my keyboard day in and day out on some snoozefest PvE content to get the gear to be at top level in WvW.
One shouldn’t affect the other. And if you can only get ascended in PvE it shouldn’t be allowed in WvW. Easy compromise. Some PvE champion with 0 player kills shouldn’t be more powerful than someone who’s spent 6 months in WvW and never tried PvE.

NO gear doesn’t matter, well not to the extent that people make it out to be. Top teir fighters, Curse gaming ( a PvP team that does WvWvW ) and the other top North american Tourny team that does WvWvW also have even said that at high end matching and fights gear only becomes the factor when two players are even across the board. Although that rarely happens, Now I am not saying that people that WvWvW shouldn’t get ascended, and honestly if they add a way to get Ascended in WvWvW I wouldn’t really care. You have to look at what the main purpose of ascended gear is ( since ascended gear only offers a 3 % stat increase <—- that is straight from arena net ) it is for fractals hence is why all ascended gear has infusion slots for the agony resist, not that you have to use it but that was it’s intended purpose.
I promise you as it stands now you take a person in 3 ascended items 9 exotics a legendary against a 13 exotic player, the chances of the first player wining the fight is just as successful as if he never had the ascended and legendary. Like I said if people want it so be it, if arena Net puts it in WvWvW (or at least the ability to get it ) I wouldn’t care. I just at this point not sure what ascended gear has anything to do with WvWvW, cause if your placing your odds of wining off a 3% stat increase you probably need to re-think your strategy ( that is directed at no one in particular )
you may say that ascended gear is slightly better than exotic and that’s true..but when all ascended items are released i think there is gonna be some noticable differnce in the stats of a full exotic geared player and a full ascended gear ..i dont know how many more ascended items they plan to make but even the trinkets that are released right now make some difference
