Xbox One & PS4 ports of GW2.
Oh god please no. Let them continue playing Call of Duty, we don’t need that crowd here.

If Anet/Ncsoft want to make more money then its a very good way to go about it!
No other suggestion would make as much money as selling the same game 2 more times on 2 more platforms.
And if they do lets hope we wont have to create new account
Im prerty sure they will, i got a feeling that next gen console is more about mmo.
well the specs are there to be able to run MMO’s now! and with more online content there’s going to be a move to more online gameplay

You don’t know it yet but they are already here.
Just look at the PvP forum, there you’ll find plenty of CoD players. Most of the words I’d need now are unfortunately censored...
It’s very unclear what the Windows 8 kernel in the XBox One actually lets you do. I’m not even sure there will be games for it (it would stand to reason, opening up the Windows Store to users, but it wouldn’t be the first missed opportunity), and I’d be really surprised if desktop software like GW2 will run.
There’s still a substantial block to any porting effort though – the CPU architecture is only one part of the picture, and honestly, it could be the lesser one. The real headache is adapting to changes in the APIs provided by the operating system. XBox might use DirectX so it could be the simpler of the two, but I doubt it’d be effortless… and you still have to tailor the UI to the controller setup (even Kinect doesn’t let you get too lazy – it only has so much accuracy, due to the limits of the human body if nothing else).

compared to PS3 and Xbox360.. these new gen machines have a much better chance of running GW2. or making it less of a pain.
The controllers wouldn’t have adequate support for the game. Not enough buttons. And if you would use a keyboard somehow with a console, you basically have a computer with a flat screen. I don’t think they will do that. Plus are you forgetting that GW2 is more than 24GB? That’s a lot to run on a console.

Here is how it can work for PS4:
Left Stick = Move (tilt left and tilt right strafes character)
Right stick = Move camera (Tilt left and right turns character; center screen locks onto ground targeting)
X = Jump
Triangle = Interact
Square = Auto attack
O = cancel
L1 = Lock/change Target
L2 = Class Specific abilities/weapon set swap (Hold for multiple selections)
L3 = dodge
R3 = Center camera
Hold R1 = Weapon skills (X, Triangle, Square and O)
Hold R2 = Healing and utility skills (X, Triangle, Square and O)
Hold Square = Elite Skill
Start = menu access
Select = Map

Keyboard and mouse support is already built into the current consoles. Developers just don’t take advantage of it. Even the PS2 had keyboard and mouse support. FF11 used this feature.

I made no mention about CRT? And if you’re insulting me, then you’re quite pathetic.
I’m saying, GW is too complex for simple controller based controls. You’d use a keyboard and mouse. So basically you are using a computer. That makes the need for GW on next gen consoles nonexistent. If you wanna play, get a PC. And if you want a larger screen, I know someone who players GW on a 48 inch.

Console controls have evolved more than PC controls. Depending of the console you can use a controller, mouse/keyboard, move, kinect, touchscreen, and headset.
Besides the future of gaming will be on console like tablet devices. And probably use the cloud.

Menus are over complicated anyway. They can be simplified without losing of the games features.
PS4 controller has a touchpad. Menus can also be controlled through it.

One touchpad my mistake. Thinking of the PS vita’s touchpad.
But many menu options could be played through the touchpad. The Mic with voice recognition can be used for voice and text chat.
Yes, the touch pad would help. However there are issues like, the sheer amount of menus, and how would you move your character at the same time as you view a menu? That’s something much simpler on a PC. And if this would happen, if the console and pC versions share the same world, I think consoles are at a sever disadvantage.

Ferguson’s Crossing
If you’re just running or spamming a attack. The PS4 touchscreen could give you the option to have a menu displayed just on the controler.
The Wii U controller would work better for this. But the Wii U wouldn’t be able play GW2 in 1080i.
I know a few people who would buy the game if it was available on PS. And as much as I would love to play those individuals by having them also be able to connect with PC players, I am not sure I would want the console community to play along…
As for the controls, I think they would be fine. DC Universe has a lot of information/controls, combos, attacks, etc. and it does pretty good once you get the hang of it. However, doesn’t the PS Network tend to stay exclusive?
I’ve already played GW2 with a controller and can say that combat could really work well, but managing inventory, trading post and chatting with others would be very problematic and would require a keyboard and mouse. PS3 already supports keyboards and mice and has two usb ports, next gen consoles will likely have those features as well, so I guess it would be better to just have the exact same control schemes for the console versions, playing with a keyboard and mouse that is. The only benefit here would really be that console owners don’t need to buy a new gaming rig just to be able to play GW2 if they already have a good console.
On the other hand, GW2 still has a bunch of unresolved issues and lacks any real good improvements, so instead I’d prefer if they used this time to actually add something really worthwhile to the game.
Any chance if Anet could port over the PC version of GW2 over to the Xbox One and PS4, seeing as both use X86-64 CPU’s and Xbox-1 even has windows8.
Would really max out servers in GW2 a bit if it mixed with PC users but the more populated the game the better.
Sony and Microsoft will not allow cross platform playing. Trion wanted to have all Sony, Microsfot and PC players to be playing on the same servers for Difiance, but Sony and Microsoft said no.
So if if they do port it to the consoles, there will be PS4 servers, and XB1 servers with no mixing between any of them or with the PC.
no just no bad idea
Wouldn’t be to far of a stretch, Diablo III is slated to be pushed out for the ps4
That’s because Diablo 3 was developed for console from the start.
Also on topic, this is a bad idea.

I cannot see gw 2 coming on consoles any time soon tbh.
for a start don’t microsoft charge for updates?
that will cost anet tons in the long run as gw 2 is always updating.
If it did happen though,i doubt we would get cross platform.
as pc players will always have a big advantage anyway.
Not going to happen.
Starting with the Xbox – you have to pay a subscription fee to use online content/Xbox live or whatever it is called. A B2P MMO isn’t going to like that people are paying a monthly fee for something that isn’t even going to them.
Then you have the issue of controllers, it isn’t a simple matter of binding the keys to certain buttons, there are just a lot of complicated functions that can’t be emulated with JUST a controller. There is a reason people play MMO’s with a keyboard and mouse. I can’t imagine how much of a mess it would be to try and be able to cast 10 spells and switch between 4 attunements using a controller… Then you have to be able to access all of the UI elements and hover items etc.
And if you would use a keyboard somehow with a console, you basically have a computer with a flat screen.

LCDs just like the one i’m using right now.
most of the people do not want developers wasting their time on optimizing a cpu bottlenecked game on a console with vastly inferior single threaded cpu performance.
However, the direct X overhead is much smaller so it might be feasible to run on low settings
This game is not is not as simple as diablo 3. This game is not meant for a console
I would buy GW2 again if it came out on the PS4.
And the only one that knows if it is not meant for a console or possible to alter the game so it does play well on a console is the developer, please don’t write down your opinions as if it is a fact.

Indeed, it’s very hard to find a computer of any kind without a flat screen anymore.

All in! …as long as there is some good alternative to chatting…
Dont worry, it will never come to PS4. Reason: Anet has made it quite clear that porting their game for different systems is something they simply refuse to do. PS4 runs on a system based on FreeBSD (Unix) … and thats it. They didnt bother porting their game natively to Mac or Linux (no seriously, they didnt. The Mac version is simply running in 3rd party emulator, while Linux users got nothing). If an emulator is all Anet wants to give, then dont get your hopes up for a native port (because thats what it would take).
That’s the PS4, Xbone is a different case that I dont know much about. If it runs Windows, then maybe there is a chance. I wouldnt get my hopes up here either though.
If you want to play GW2, I think you will have to stay with old-fashioned Windows computers. Sorry :-/
And even if they did “port” it, they most likely wouldn’t do it for consoles, due to the fact that they would have to rebuild much of the game in order to even get it to work.

ppl are forgetting that they will actually lose out money when they release a game for a console, both MS and SONY asks a certain amount of % for every copy sold and it take a hell of a time to adjust the controls to the controller.
also, like mentioned already, both SONY and MS are against server sharing.
they would be forced to play in a really small group because they can’t connect with any other version, i know it’s annoying but that’s how it’s done and it never changed.
besides, who wants to grimp them selves to a controller when KBM is faster, easier to use and all around better in every aspect.
I say leave the consoles out of it, GW2 should only be on pc.

Q: Any plans for next gen consoles?
A: No, not right now. It is interesting to see how many game companies into the new consoles for MMOs. We want to focus on being the best possible PC game. The regularity we update are extremely hard to do on console. We can’t just update the game whenever we want. A second reason is if you look in the East, which we havn’t launched yet. We sold 3 million copies and not even in some of the most populated MMO market yet. There is very little console players in Asia, China etc.

This answer came from Colin Johanson: http://dulfy.net/2013/07/16/gw2-colin-johanson-livestream-transcript/
I also am against to making this game available to consoles. If this is considered, it should be on seperate servers AND with separate WvW matches and PvP matches.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!

What you mean now?
Anyway, the biggest problem I see is the presentation.
Lets face it, GW2 aren’t winning any prizes, and that can be a big issue. For the target audience it’s fine because they (MMO players) know it’s not about that.
Console players on the other hand used to master pieces of cutscenes like in MGS, ME and so on might be disappointed right off the start.
I tell you, on the Sylvari personal story when Caithe kills that NPC, MGS on the PS1 had better animations.
Don’t get me wrong, I love GW2 (+PC gaming in general) and I love consoles, just don’t mix them, really it’s two different things.
(…)Plus are you forgetting that GW2 is more than 24GB? That’s a lot to run on a console.
MGS4 is nearly 50GB.

Yeah.
X = Basic attack/select
Square = dodge
Circle = Jump
Triangle = Interact (looting, using, etc.)
Start = Hero Menu (including other menus)
Select = Map
Left Stick = movement
Right Stick = Camera movement (AoE targeting will be center of screen)
L1 = Lock/Drop target
Directional buttons <—> = Change target
Direction buttons ^v = camera zoom.
*Shoulder buttons except for L1 are customizable.
R1 press = Weapon Skills (will replace the right button commands with weapon skill commands)
R1 Hold = Healing skill
R2 Press = Profession skills
R2 Hold = Elite Skill
L2 L3 and R3 = whatever you want.
As for power, as long as arenanet optimizes their game there will be nothing to worry about.
