You should change game name
Companies do things for financial reasons. In this case, it is brand name awareness that brings people in who played Guild Wars 1. To change the name now would not only lose that but cost money to redesign the boxes in retail as well as other costs. What financial incentive would the company have to change the name at this date?
Well I don’t demand that they change it right now, maybe they could do it with new expansion or add sub title to game(below guild wars 2). I know that some people will say “why you left gw1 in first place?” but after dev abandoned it(no new events, new campaigns) and I can’t count for new content I am kind of stuck here ^ ^
Prophecies was originally just called Guild Wars… they changed the name when Factions came out. So there’s no reason they couldn’t do this.
They could do this as they did with prophecies, but to be honest I don’t see the point.
The name “World of Guild Wars” just make me think too much of trying to mimic “World of Warcraft”… and really there’s no rule that says that the sequel needs to be just like the original.
For example Aliens is completely different in feel and style than Alien (to name a movie), first one being more survival horror, while the second more action oriented, and if you come to gaming, there are no games more different than Dune and Dune 2 (any other old timer can say the same)
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

The devs stated early on that GW2 will be a different game from GW1.
Yes, they promised a lot of things. Whether they lived up to those promises is debatable.
Does it mean the game needs to change it’s name? No

I find the game awesome as it is. The only thing I really miss from GW1 is being able to have two classes (I was an elementalist/mesmer).
