The game is not designed for this, and probably never will be. Simple as that.

This bothers me a lot. I would love to see a solution to this.

A solution for this would to allow the Ele to weapon swap… And I can’t say that I see that happening any time soon anyway. The idea of making a “place holder” for a two handed weapon to swap out like you’ve saying, just seems silly. Since the two slots there represents your hands, and if you’re putting a “place holder” in one hand, you can’t properly wield that two handed weapon now can you? :P

Not a place holder in your hands, but a placeholder in your inventory.

A gear chest which combines the quality of exotic and safe containers would be a pretty good stop gap measure for this.

Well if this is what you’re wanting, start carrying around a piece of vendor trash with you… That should do the trick.

And since there is a lack of weapon swap on the Ele and the Engineer from what I hear… Wouldn’t it be easier to switch in a different fashion than what you’ve been doing, if perhaps you’re two hander is getting “lost” in a bag of things?
I assume you are opening up your character sheet and selecting to equip from there? I believe if you do this from the bags/boxes… It will replace the item slot you’re taking the new weapon out of with the weapon you currently have equipped…. So there is no need for a “inventory place holder”.

Cause I’m sorry, still seems like you’re basically asking for a swap weapons option, though without the easy access button.

The solution would be to simply let the Ele and Engineer use the secondary weapon slots on the character but disable weapon swap during combat. This way you could swap with one click once you are out of combat. Not much programming needed on ANet’s side for this.

Get an exotic-first box/bag and put it as your last bag. I got mine from fractals with relics. That way your staff, daggers, and armor can go there, and all junk will fill up the beginning bags first. This is assuming all your weapons and armors are exotic. You can also get the rare version of the box.

RIP in peace Robert

It’s not just an ele and engineer problem, I find it annoying on my guardian as well.

The build I’m using is a hybrid support/DPS thing, so when doing dungeons or heavy group content I usually use greatsword and staff (specially like the staff for events with lots of people on it and lots of mobs to tag like pent/shelter in orr), but for boss events I usually switch the staff for scepter/shield, so I can attack from range (and also in other occasions). When I switch back to staff, usually the shield ends up on a random location on my bags instead of the invisible bag I have for that.

I’d like for the items you equip/unequip to remember their position in your inventory, and if that position is available, for them to return to it on unequip.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

I’d like to direct all you “lost in my bags” people to the handy little search option your inventory has. Simply type the item you’re looking for into it, and viola! It’s found with ease! ><;

Yes this search even brings up items that don’t have the weapon/armor type in the name… I just tested it. My “Healing Shiverpeak Club of Force” came up as the only thing in my bag when I typed in “Mace”.
So really, there is no need for a “placeholder” to swap out your single to double item weapons.
Should be thankful they at-least give us an option to switch weapons as easily as we can, and while in combat too! I know of no other game that lets you swap out weapons or any kind of gear while in combat.

Guild Wars 1 did a good job on this. When equipping a two-handed weapon, it would leave the offhand item equip (with a strike through it to signify that you will not be gaining anything from it). It would simply replace the main hand weapon, so that way the weapon you are equipping would replace the two-handed one in your bags.

In Guild Wars 2 however when replacing two weapons with a two-handed weapon it puts the main hand where the two-handed weapon was and throws the offhand weapon to the top-most slot in your inventory. For many people, myself included, this is troublesome since we like to keep all our weapons in the bottom slots so they don’t get in the way of selling and salvaging.

Sorry, its kinda hard to explain, but most Guild Wars 1 players should know what I’m talking about.
