As we all know, the current state of the GW2 dungeon community is… Deplorable at best. A lot of PUGs can’t manage simple encounters, a depressing amount of players have never set foot in anything other than CoF etc… I myself am a really dedicated dungeon crawler however, and spend almost all my time in GW2 playing in them.
Unfortunately, I have refrained from running PUG groups all together because of the current state of the community. And I don’t really blame them. Why run a dungeon that is harder and gives less rewards than CoF p1 when most people do dungeons for the money anyway?
The best way to do this in my opinion -outside of flat out nerfing CoF, with I am a big advocate of- is to bring more incentive towards the community for doing more dungeon runs. This is not my first thread about something like this, and with the current state of dungeon PvE, it might not be my last.
The Concept

Anyway, let’s get to the topic at hand. I think a really good idea would be to bring back something like the Zaishen Bounty we used to have in GW1. For those that don’t know what Zaishen Bounties were, they were a type of quest that changed every day that sent you off into the world to kill a certain boss. You could do it on every character once per day. It always had a base reward and a bonus tied to it. The bonus in GW1 was -in case of the bounties- usually just “Kill the mother****** in Hard Mode”, but it worked.
It would be nice to see something like this come back, with a nice reward tied to it, and it shouldn’t even necessarily be a dungeon boss only (although that would work out a lot better for my goal), it could be any boss in the game. But I’m going to stick to dungeons with my suggestions.
How could this be implemented? Well, have a bounty every day that asks for the death of a certain boss, be it an endboss of a boss only, or a subboss. For example, we could have to kill the Wraithlord in Arah path 3, or Lupicus.
How could a bonus be tied into this, since we obviously don’t have Hard Mode in the game?
Well, let’s just take a couple of examples of bosses and see how it could work.
Let’s say the daily bounty is to kill the Nightmare Tree in Twilight Arbor. The base reward could be to kill the Nightmare tree in any path. The bonus could be to kill the Nightmare tree in all paths, that way you have to do all of the dungeon.
Or, if the bounty is Lupicus, the bonus could be to kill the Bloodstone Shard or any other endboss in Arah. That way people that want to do the bounty could just do the path they feel best in, but for the bonus, they would have to run path 4.
In Caudecus’ Manor, the bounty could be to kill Frost, and the bounty could be to kill Sure-shot Seamus as well. That way people could choose to kill Seamus on path 1 instead of skipping him, or people could do both path 1 and path 3 in order to kill both of them.
Etc etc. There are plenty of possibilities, since I just pulled the ones I listed here out of my kitten on the spot.
The Rewards

Well, since we don’t have Zaishen coins anymore, and the last thing we need in this game is more currency, the rewards would obviously consist of gold, karma and experience, and if it’s tied to dungeons instead of open world bosses, you could even get some bonus tokens for it.
Tie the Experience, the gold and the karma to the base reward like in GW1, and tie the tokens to the bonus. Get for example 20 tokens for completing the base requirement and get 60 extra for doing the bonus (just 2 random numbers).
But here’s what I’d really like to see: Laurels.
Yes, you heard me, Laurels. To be honest, the fact that these Laurels are bound to dailies only is kind of a nuisance. I did a fractal 36, Arah path 2, 3 and 3 again and a full CoE run and I got a whopping 1/5 yesterday.
I’d suggest that the reward for completing the bonus, but limiting it to only 1 possible Laurel per day.
I don’t care if you even make it so that if you complete the bounty, you can’t get your daily Laurel anymore, like it works with the PvP and the PvE dailies.
Anyway, in conclusion, I think something like this could actually bring some community incentive to start running other dungeons and actually going out of their way in order to complete them, rather than just sticking to the easy paths.

I love the idea, particularly the part about getting laurels =D The only problem is the bonus, because most bosses are unique to a single path. I believe the following are the only exceptions (correct me if I’m wrong):
Queen Spider (AC)
Cave Troll (AC)
Lieutenant Kholer (AC)
Sure-Shot Seamus (CM)
Greater Nightmare Vine (TA)
Nightmare Tree (TA)
Subject Alpha (CoE)
Mark T-B34RC3 (CoE)
Giganticus Lupicus (Arah)
Let’s forget Kudu koz he’s from story modes. If we counted him I suppose we’d have to permit Gaheron Baelfire too…
For most bosses (including all the ones in CoF and HotW), you couldn’t have a bonus that wasn’t A) finish the path you already did half of or do a completely different path, which are pretty meaningkitten nuses. So yeah, fantastic idea overall but maybe let’s forget the bonus? In some cases it’ll be a choice (Nightmare Tree: which path of TA shall we do?) and in others there’ll be a specified path (Bloodstone Shard: anyone still need Arah 4 for dungeon master?) – that doesn’t sound like a problem to me, provided the rewards are appropriately balanced like they were in GW1. Add bonuses when Hard Mode is implemented IMO..!
This would be an awesome suggestion. CoF p1 is stupidly broken, and this on top of a nice rebalancing of CoF p1 would go a long way towards helping.

The entire path needs to change though, it’s just too stupidly easy. Luckily you still have the acolytes, who function as a time gate, because otherwise, runs would be <3-4mins.
Add some actual mechanics or fix the balance of rewards in dungeons.
Or my design-a-weapon/dungeon skin idea, I think that would balance out a lot of issues as well.
I like this idea :-P tokens, laurels.. dungeon bosses (fractal bosses? might be tough because it’s random.. encourages rerolling the first fractal to get the one you want for the daily), temples taken maybe? Not sure how many different ways they can take this… but either way, a great suggestion. Would love to see this in game.

Add something like this to the daily achievement or add a monthly achievement for running different dungeons.
Great suggestion! I loved the Zaishen Bounties in GW1 and there was some great stuff we could buy from the Coins!
We need a great reward mechanic other than gold. I think Laurels fits in perfectly as karma is quite useless currently.
With laurels, we can buy a lot of things, materials, dyes, ascended items, etc.
There should be great rewards for completing the bounty too. And maybe there could be multiple types.
Example (each would be randomized from a pool of selected ones each day):
Zaishen World Bounties
1) Defeat Claw of Jormag
2) Defeat The Great Jungle Wurm
3) Defeat the Hight Priestess (Lyssa)
Zaishen Dungeon Bounties
1) Defeat Lieutenant Kohler
2) Defeat Mark T-B34RC3
3) Defeat the Nightmare Tree
Zaishen Fractal Bounty
1) Defeat Old Tom
2) Defeat the Champion Grawl Shaman
3) Defeat …
There could also be more category of bounties such as Zaishen Puzzle:
1) Complete the XYZ jumping puzzle
2) Complete the ABC jumping puzzle
3) Complete the DEF jumping puzzle
And maybe even Zaishen Guild Missions (which would grant more benefits at doing them more than once per week) :
1) Complete a Guild Bounty
2) Complete a Guild Puzzle
3) Complete a Guild Trek
We’d have like 3 bounties per category, each rewarding some bonus loot/gold/etc. We could even tie the “world boss bonus chests” to these bounties (1 bounty = 1 guaranteed drop). If you complete a set, you get more rewards and a laurel for your first set (or first 2 sets?).
Rewards could also include a chance at cores/lodestones/T6 mats/ectos/etc.
This would encourage more people actually playing the game while giving more choice at what you want to play.
It could also give out some karma, but karma being a bit useless right now (nothing really worth buying), we’d need more interesting rewards for it) if it should be considered instead of laurels. But I think laurels would fit much more nicely into this.

Although I like your enthusiasm, Goddess, the only thing I disagree with is putting Guild Missions in there as well, seeing how they are already pretty rewarding on their own: Comms, 50 silver and 2 rares/exotics/ascended trinkets.
Yes, but they are “weeklies” currently, I love them, but doing a Guild Bounty for 15 minutes for no reward is not fun. Or doing a Guild Puzzle for some blues, not so fun too! It’s a part of the game that should have more love. These are really fun and I’d love to have an incentive at doing them daily! The weekly reward would stay, in addition to the Zaishen bounty rewards.
Or maybe:
1) Remove chests from all missions
2) Keep weeklie reward bonus chests (containing the gold and commendations, and maybe a bonus guaranteed rare)
3) Add 1 guaranteed rares with more rewards to the Zaishen Guild Missions
So you still have to do it weekly for commendations and some extra silvers/golds, but each time you do it, you get the rares, laurels and other rewards.
I think it’s quite interesting for most people.
