Hi there,

How about a pve zone with rising (and falling) water levels?

It could be a coastal zone with low tide and high tide. Or a zone with a a river and a dam. The rising and falling of the water level could either be controlled through an event (opening / closing the water gates) or through a timer (the tides).

There is also a network of caves in the zone which are partly filled with water when the water has risen. Some of them are only reachable when the water has risen because players cannot jump high enough but with the water they can swim up to the cave. The lower caves will be under water for half of the time.

I actually like this idea. Maybe even a jumping puzzle where you have to try and complete it before the water rises. But, since you can swim in game it might not work out well so maybe it could be some deadly substance instead? It sounds like a gimmick, but gimmick, but gimmicks are fun when it comes to jumping puzzles.

Its a nice idea. Got to admit I was a little disappointed in Anet’s claim that the zones were dynamic and character actions had a lasting impact on the terrain, which in most cases just means an event chain progressing one way or another with a quest to reset it at the end so you can rinse/repeat.

Would take a lot of work but anything like this to make a zone feel more dynamic and physically different depending on the time of day you are there is a good thing imo.

I can already imagine a tunnel network full of krait that is only accessible at high tide when they are waterlogged and you can swim down to them \o/ And we all remember the rising water level in the Mad King’s Clocktower, that was fun right? Right?
