alternative to grinding dungons

I like that, it’s an xbox achievement kind of style. Receive X tokens for beating 1 wing, 2 wings, or 3 wings. Then you get X tokens for doing nifty little things ANet wouldn’t expect from a PUG. As long as it’s a one time per character type of deal it would certainly make dungeons more interesting.

/Signed This would make dungeon explore mode more fun.
its THE improvement PvE needs.. lots off guildes gave up on pve.. and it feels harder and harder to make a group to clear TA/HotW/CoE (last time i’ve seen CoE.. i asked “WTH is that..?” -.-)
Google “Grow uP” e Faz a Apply..!
Play Hard, Live Fast, Win Moar..!
“I do not want to run AC Explore over and over and over to get the 80 Exotic gear I want”
No… I earned my gear, earn yours.
You want to skate by and make things easier for you… No, princess, you want the gear you do the dungeon and one week you get the armor.
Wealth or being poor has NOTHING to do with dungeon.

Hey , breaking news (if we go back to the release date) dungeons rewards involve grinding cause they got cool skins. While you can buy cheap bad looking exos on TP.
And in this game you got grind for cool skins. Simple like that.
Still since Anet now i going down hill in everything that this game said they would stand upon on release , who knows what will happen.
Yes. I like this.
Whilst I disagree with your drive for coming up with these ideas, I like most of them in their own right.
Anything that rewards doing things different ways, and makes the group think and take their time more than just steamrolling through content would be greatly appreciated.
I want to earn mine. I just want to do so in a better way. Simply because you ginded through dungons to get your gear doesn’t mean Anet can’t redesign how its done. I am not looking for a pass, and its possible that getting the Achivements could be more difficult then grinding. As to Anet changing, this sounds more akin to their non-grinding game design then the current grinding, and if things change for the better, the entire player base will benifit.

I got 3 chars on lvl 80 alone and 9 chars total , if Anet made the sets easy to get , i would actually have plenty of use for it.
But that is not the point , the point is , it is suppose to be a grind. Because the only real reason to do it is for looks , anyone can get exo on 80 without much effort , the dungeon ones are just not the ones meant to be easy to get. The looks of the dungeon gear , that is the real meaning to it.
Anet did say there would be grind for looks , while true , there should be no grind for max stats. Exo wise , there is no problem, getting exos is not hard . The real problem lies on ascension gear where you need to grind your soul away to get it.
Do note , people dont do dungeons for fun (most of them fur sure anyway) , they do it for the reward , making everyone get the set fast also means groups going down in number really fast. Heh , soon all that will be left is FotM groups.

See, instead of trolling someone for possibly wanting their loot quicker I looked at it from this angle. Most of my fun in games comes from trying new ideas, sometimes really dumb ones but I still get enjoyment. For the nay-sayers saying “shut up and go grind like I did silently” maybe you missed the part about this being a one time deal. It’s not something you should be able to over and over like a daily, it would be a real achievement for doing something the average group wouldn’t accomplish.

I agree with this, its a good motivation to make better players = better rewards. thats why i also open this thread to complement it.

All these ideas are a waste, you make it easier and then you hyenas will just turn around and complain about having nothing to do.
It’ll never happen.
its about what 20 or so dungeon runs for the whole armor set? do each path once per day for a week and your done. i don’t see the grind? rift has (or had its been a while) massive dungeon grinds where you need at least 20-30 dungeon runs to buy one piece if your not doing the current raid content. wow used to be something similar but they’ve changed it a few times over the years. if this was for a harder dungeon i could understand, but for AC… 2 hrs max a day for all 3 runs including breaks/deaths/running back from WP
other then that i kinda like the idea, but i dont see it ever being implemented.
I vote for this idea, I like the 1 time achievement thing, and different ways to earn rewards. I don’t mind grinding some, but I also hate stagnant play with no room for flexibility. Most grinds I can find ways to do it differently to keep it interesting but with the current dungeon system there’s not much room to change it. You run it, same paths same strats, get the same rewards regardless of how good or poorly you did, go home with your loot. Seems pretty stagnant to me. This idea would freshen the runs and make obtaining at least 1 set from the dungeons a rather enjoyable experience.
~Surrender fiend and you will get an easy death
~I could promise you the same…but it would be a lie…

Exactly. I understand, especially those who did the grind already, the perversion to this idea but it does not make anything easy mode by being a 1 time thing nor is there any real downside. Most MMOs have some achievement system in the game for titles, exp, or other rewards and dungeons are usually part of it. There’s no reason with the current XBL, or Steam, style of achievement system we currently have to not build upon it with new ideas.

Also, I never said this would make it easy. Doing it this way could open a lot of room to make it more difficult than incompetently doing the same dungeon over, and over, and over… It would reward skill over just repeating the same grind.

Bonus rooms and loot for completing random events that pop up.
IE: You’re party is ambushed by a large spider that drops down from the ceiling thus triggering the random event. Kill the spider and receive a small loot bag and discover the spider has knocked open a hidden passage in the wall.
Just a thought branching from yours, there could be hundreds of possibilities.

Maybe a bonus for performance could be added to lessen the grind to an extent, but what you’re suggesting (an amazing player being able to get tokens for a full suit in one run of all paths) would be ridiculous. Thats cutting it down far too much. It still needs to take time.
And I’m leery about how this would effect people running dungeons anyway. There’s already a lot of “LFG, level 80’s only”, but with something like this you’re going to have people doing “LFG, amazing players who never die only” or so on. Or people so dead-set on getting the “Never die” achievement for bonus tokens that they’ll actually avoid getting into battles and hurt the rest of the group in the process.

^^ This. Achievements are good, they should not be game breaking though. Because I already run into this during the Swamp fractal. Someone refused to help because he wanted the achievement for avoiding the traps.
As someone who still feels bad for dragging her guild on so many TA runs I understand what you’re saying. At the same time though I feel it could be problematic for many reasons. People do get semi obsessed with achievements and like Bunmaster previously pointed out, they’ll harm the group instead of help. Even with said achievements, you’d still be running AC over and over. The one time achievements would probably only give you the same amount of tokens you can get from a bag. Maybe 10 at max.
It really is a great feeling when you finally get your dungeon gear though! If you need any help feel free to drop me a line.
Thinking it over, yes, being able to get all the tokens you need in one run would be too much. I considered that some people would just sit back to get a certain achievement, but I doubt that would be common, and you cna alway kick a group member and find a replacement. Irratiating, yes, but could prevent people from doing this. I was just giving examples, and perhaps that is a poor idea, but it doesn’t mean this concept in general wouldn’t add to dungeons, even if it was just another way to get tokens in addition to repeating completion tokens. Some better examples would be a reward for doing the most damage to a boss, or taking the most damage during a fight and not getting downed. There are lots of places to reward good behavior and skilled gameplay with achievement tokens, that would liven up dungeons, make it less grindy, and more fun.

I believe that’s why we humans invented the think tank. Your concept is a really good one, it would just take awhile to think of the best ideas to implement and how to avoid bad players taking advantage.
