what we have now is escort npc from point A-B travelling a same route.

my suggestion: let the player choose which route to use to get from A-B atleast 3 choices, more better.

choice sample,
1) hold the point until X npc comes to open up a portal so they can traverse through the portal.

2) travel a shorter route (choice of route A, or B not including the original/usual road) through the thickets, facing more enemies, or even bosses etc.

the only problem with this is, what if even numbers of people want different routes? it’s gonna just stop where it is until another random person comes along to vote for it

At a point like that, maybe it could make a random choice after a countdown.
