what do you guys think about a boss that you constantly have to interrupt to kill? he could heal himself for more than you can dps unless you interrupt. kinda like dredge fractal endboss, but with interrupts. he could be ccable while he uses his heal, but otherwise have defiant stacks like normal. I would actually prefer this mechanic on a boss with phases like lupi but oh well

This sounds a lot like the powersuit / ice ele boss in the Dredge Fractal, honestly.

Depends how the interrupt would be done. It could lead to an imbalance of classes that have more interrupts, which might not necessarily be a bad thing.

yes, I even said so. thing is, instead of moving around, you have to time your interrupts.

I like the way the powersuit / ice ele boss works more because it doesn’t become a class-specific battle where some classes are “bad” because they have fewer accessible interrupts. Anyone can pull the levers, and anyone can interrupt with any damage if he’s superheated.

Lastly, how would any of this work with bosses being unshakable? Defiant stacks would make this sort of thing really dumb (because some class comps couldn’t come up with enough interrupts to knock off all stacks before the dude heals again). We couldn’t just not give him unshakable, either, because he would just get CC chained into next week in that case by tailored teams.

im not 100% sure but i dont think defiant actually prevent interuption, ie if you use a daze on a boss casting with defaint on, it will still cancel the cast but he jsut wont get the daze effect itself (so he can begin another cast straight away)

all classes have a reasonable amount of cc that can interrupt(fear, knockback, push, daze, stun etc…)

I have already answered the second question. unshakable and defiant stacks are saved and removed when he starts healing, when he gets interrupted or finishes healing, his defiant stacks and unshakable are put back.

You can’t actually interrupt the boss’s skills unless he has 0 stacks of defiant, but the effects of the interrupt are still usually shown regardless (I say usually because for some bosses it’s weird; it’s like each boss’s behavior is unique in some regard). This is especially noticeable with things like Fear (the condition still gets applied so things like Terror still work).

It’s easy to say that, but we have no idea if the tech exists for that to even be possible in the boss framework. I have a feeling this is currently not possible in GW2.

Assuming that’s true (which is fine, but I think there are still huge disparities, with some CC on classes being locked up in otherwise terrible weapons), you still have the issue of faster cast times on some than others. In order for this mechanic you’re suggesting to even be meaningful, it needs to require fast reaction time, otherwise it’s cheesy-easy, but at the same time half the classes have longer windups on their CCs, so it can’t be too short. This really limits either your team composition, or the skill threshold of the mechanic, which ultimately limits how cool it can be.
