The suggestion is pretty nice, but it doesn’t fit all professions. Can you elaborate this for each one?

i prefer not having 40 buttons to manage in combat but i personally feel the current profession design and accessible abilities/powers during combat here are too limited. i was trying to think of ways to stay somewhat close to the original combat bar design and mechanics but have a set up that would allow for a more flexible and diverse combat experience for existing and future content.

instead of 10 working buttons we would double that to 20. numbers 1-10 would all consist of individual weapon attacks or a be combination of 2 weapons such as sword and warhorn. players would still be able to swap to a second weapon or weapon set. a 3rd set would be great
f1 would be only the self heal, while f2 would be an aoe ground heal affecting pets and teammates
f3-f5 would strickly be the slots for 3 basic skills at hand and f6-f8 are for 3 passive running signets. or possibly f3-f8 could be something like max 2 traps, 2 signets, 2 nontrap skills.
f9 and f10 would be reserved for 2 long cooldown elite skills.
obviously there will need to be a ton of creation and work done to provide more weapons, attacks, skills, traits and signets, but i feel it would be healthy for player retention, end game combat/meta for the long run. additionally, tougher and more interesting combat can be designed to continuously provide a challenge for players and teams.
