do u want activities glory & rank to stay?
Oh? I didn’t read where it was a bug, and was going to be removed. Do you have a link for that? I like the glory and rank in Activities, as that is about as close to PvP as I will probably ever get. Too many ‘passionate’ players there for me to even try my hand. Lol.
I’m all for keeping it. I never PvP, so it’s been a nice surprise since I started ranking up and earning glory from all my Mad King Clocktower runs. It’s not a tremendous amount, I’m sure, but it’s a nice consolation for having to be in PvP mode for activities. (Wearing PvP gear, not being able to play with party, etc.)
I’d love for it to be kept. Technically all Activities ARE PvP (you’re competing against other players), so I see no problem with gaining Glory doing it. Maaaybe not the Rank, although I have no strong position either way.
I read it was a bug, and I was extremely disappointed to hear it. I like the way it is.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
So presumably one could become a “Gladiator” by playing lots of fantasy rugby? What is the point in that? I don’t PvP, so would be convenient, but no, ty. I am glad to hear they will remove it.

Why not? Real gladiators were also just attending activities, not real wars and battles.

hmmm any other reasons why you support the removal?
Because the obtained title has nothing to do with the activity it is being earned for. PvP ranks should be earned for doing PvP and not playing minigames. You may be wearing PvP clothes but I strongly suspect that has to do with the afk timers more than anything else.
Extreme example : Mad King jp. However challenging it might be, it is not PvP. It is a jumping puzzle and the other players cannot even interact with you. Does it sound reasonable to you that someone becomes a “Gladiator” by jumping? It would be like obtaining Dungeon Master title by capturing Stonemist 10 times, because of a bug that counted castle lords as dungeon end bosses. How would that make any sense whatsoever?
And even when minigames have minor elements of PvP, for example Sanctum Spring where you can delay other players, I still would not classify them as PvP in a combat game like gw2. I would only classify them as PVP in a game whose main theme was that activity – in this case a racing/(running?). Since GW2 is not a running game, I simply do not think these are proper PvP: they are minigames. They are even called minigames. They give you achievement points which makes sense but no, glory points do not make sense to me.
PS: Only possible exception would be Dragonball.
^ hmmm some good points. fair enough.
still, PvP means player versus player
crab toss
- you versus other players to grab the crab
sanctum sprint
- you versus other players to win the race
keg brawl
- your team versus the other team to score kegs
southsun survival
- you versus other players to come out last man standing
dragon ball
- your team versus the other team, score kills for points
aspect arena
- your team versus the other team, score kills, capture balls
lunatic inquisition
- villagers versus ghost team, score kills, convert villagers
all the above have solid player versus player mechanics in them, so for me, the glory and rank gain is justified.
for mad king tower, you do the jump together with other players, but there is no interaction between the players.
you cannot make them fail their jumps.
so if the glory and rank gain is removed from the mad king tower, i have no comment.
Activities were very empty for me without it.
I don’t like PvP that we have for now but I enjoy fighting other players in mini games. I still fight them but on another way and the way it’s way nicer than normal PvP.
I don’t mind if it stays. It just makes sense, since the activities ARE pvp.

Besides, the gains are relatively low for the time invested compared to the real sPvP. I see no harm in leaving those as they are now.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Sure, if I get pve xp and loot from killing necromancer minions, ranger pets, mesmer phantasms since that’s PvE.
More honest, no, I think fun activities should be treated seperate from PvP
and have their own progression and their own unique rewards.
I didn’t get my pvp titles from playing rubber ball, sanctum toss and crab sprint and having fun. I got my rank and title from having the guts to bleed and walk through fields of poison, getting chopped to pieces, stunlocked, zerged, sometimes ending up being angry enough to destroy my pc, but I kept playing!
And now this should achieve the same?!?!

pfft..
Sure, if I get pve xp and loot from killing necromancer minions, ranger pets, mesmer phantasms since that’s PvE.
Rangers can control their pets, necromancers can chose when to use the minion’s ability and mesmers can chose which phantasms to use and when to shatter them to cause the most damage. It is not PvE so that argument is invalid.
The rest of your post is just “how DARE them to get rewards for having fun while I do something I hate because I want the titles”, and I’m sure nothing I can say about that will matter to you.
Anyway, I enjoy all forms of PvP in the game to date and I don’t think it is fair that some of them are not rewarded as such. Activities are PvP, no matter how I look at them.

They should keep it.
After all the possible farming the months before, these games don’t do any damage.
So presumably one could become a “Gladiator” by playing lots of fantasy rugby?
Well presumably one can currently become a Gladiator by standing on a colored circle.
or by taking turns jumping off cliffs.

I want all those pvp activities, with or without glory and rank, to be removed from pve daily and moved to pvp daily where they belong.

I don’t hate sPvP, it’s one of the parts I enjoy the most.
As I said, I think activities and mini games should have their own progression and rewards, instead of having them compete with a part of the game where you are up against other players utilizing your own class and participating in a structured teamwork.
I don’t mind if they put in some glory and armor rewards to wear.
But ranks and titles, that are meant to show at what experience level you are in sPvP doesn’t just belong there, since sPvP and arenas are on a different level than competive mini-games.
From how I see it sPvP still needs a lot of love, some sort of rating system needs to be in place and it should reward active play more than just simple farming.
If you are all so convinced that minigames ARE PvP, I’m sure you won’t have any trouble joining PvP matches to gain glory when they fix this bug.
Since, you know, you have so much PvP experience.
I want all those pvp activities, with or without glory and rank, to be removed from pve daily and moved to pvp daily where they belong.
On the contrary, I love being able to complete my PvE daily with a bit of minigame. With glory it’s all the more interesting, because with time, it will allow me to get the gear looks I want during these minigames.
It’s always nice to have something more than you are expecting, but it seemed like a bug to me.
I think the only thing that should count towards PvP is the work the real PvP players put into it. Sprinting, tossing crabs, those are just fun mini games that pits us against each other, and though technically that, by definition means it is ‘player against player’, but it’s not PvP, and I think we know that.
I don’t PvP. If I ever learned how to do it, I would look forward to earning experience and rewards for it.
I got a PvP wand today when I reached rank 2 after doing a sanctum sprint. :|
I’ve done Sanctum Sprint and other activities on a couple occasions and never got Glory or any PvP rankings… where are you getting this info from?

Regarding the Gladiator Title: Do activities even progress it?
I ask because I’ve ranked up a couple of times (filled the bar, got a rabkittenest) based purely on winning rounds on the Clocktower, and I don’t have any points in the Gladiator track. Maybe I’m misunderstanding something, or maybe other activities fill it, but the only thing I seem to be getting is glory and rank points, without progression on any of the titles.
(Which is okay with me; I’m just not sure the thing people are worried about is actually happening.)

As long as no one is able to farm it (in an unreasonable cheaty-sort of way), I don’t really care. If someone wants to play nothing but crab toss for 3 years to obtain a reasonable PvP rank, be my guest. You’ll gouge your eyes out first though.
And “gladiator” is about as prestigious and hard to get as “combat healer” or “volunteer”.
Yes, I want activities glory & rank to stay.
I kind of like it really. I mean if they are going to be putting in boxes for LS stuff to buy with glory that you can’t get anywhere else like they did with the Toxic boxes they might as well let everyone generate a little currency.
I can totally understand why they would want to remove it as well if they deem so. But some of the more PvP-like activities should keep it. I mean, Inquisition was reasonable, Keg Brawl and Crab toss seems reasonable as well. Even Sanctum Sprint seems fine if you compare it to those since it all truly is against other players.
Edit: But yeah, as far as I can tell it doesn’t actually progress you through ranks. I’ve gone through the rabbit bar 3 times now and haven’t changed. Though I’m not entirely sure how much it takes to rank up.

Regarding the Gladiator Title: Do activities even progress it?
If your image is accurate then it sounds like there is no problem. You can’t rank up Gladiator title from Activities, only through actual PvP.
I like it, there’s really no reason for you not to get Glory. Whether you win in PvP or a race, you still are getting glory.
And for the record, you can rank up to Gladiator by running around in circles and simply finishing matches. You don’t have to win, you don’t even have to engage anyone, you just need to finish. I’d rather see someone obtain Gladiator (even though it seems to not be possible) through mini-games than to see someone have the Gladiator title that just stood around doing nothing and only hurt their team.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
To be honest I didn’t realize Glory could be earned via Activities.
That would make it all the better, but I do agree rank should not be gained that way.
I see Glory akin to PvP Karma of sorts. Rank should determine how long you’ve played in sPvP.
So keep Glory awards, unless they want to give out more money, but Rank shouldn’t advance this way.

Oh now I get what it was trying to censor, the naughty word I mean, wow the filter sure does get overzealous at times.

Which is funny because those Activities are PvP!
Yes but not structured PvP, where the goal is to kill people.
These are more competitive PvP, where you won a football match or race.
To give a ham fisted example: I would be a great football player but a lousy soldier in the field of battle.
but in both cases you might be really good at leading a team and properly deploying your resources.

I’m all for it, that Glory& Rank should stay for Activities.
They are all a kind of PvP and winning those activities should reward a player with glory.
Sure, the rewards shouldn’t be as much like doing some real PvP matches and winning these, but it should reward us with some glory at least.
It would be also a nice incentive to do these activities, if you want tp make some glory, but when you are bored for a moment from the normal PvP, then you’d have the activities as alternatives.
(edited by Orpheal.8263)
atm u get the same amount of rankpoints like in hot join for loosing a game. even if they intend to not remove it, the amount u get is way to high.

I actually find regular PvP matches way easier than Southsun Survival ;x
The other activities are easy, I’ll give you that… But I can’t win Southsun Survival to save my life. I understand the game and I know what I have to do, I guess everybody else is just way better at it than me lol

Well… ArenaNet only considered “real PvP” as PvP (they didn’t consider Jade Quarry for Fort Aspenwood real PvP either) in GW. They did not consider minigames “real PvP” and did not reward them as such. So this is probably going to be the same way. After all, it is a completely different game play style. You have to master your profession for PvP, not for minigames.
