dual class system without complication/unbalance and possibly easy coding.

Several of my friends and I were doing some brainstorming about how they could allow us to dual class like we used to be able to in Guild Wars 1. here is the idea:
Equipment:
- Access to all the weapons available of their primary and secondary class.
- Armor is Restricted to Primary class only.
Example: An Elementalist Primary with a Warrior Secondary cannot equip heavy armor.
Weapons/Weapon Skills:
- Each class would be able to equip their secondary weapons. thus gaining the ability to use their second class weapon skills.
Example: Elementalist who chooses Warrior as their second class would be able to wield a great sword. but however while using it they cannot attune and gain the adrenaline bar for that weapon type.
- Primary Class Weapon skills will override Weapon skills from a secondary class.
Example: A Mesmer who chooses Warrior as their secondary class would be forced to use their mesmer skills if they wield a sword or great sword. They would be able to use a hammer, gain the ability to use the warrior hammer skills, and the hammer’s adrenalin skills. However they would lose their ability to shatter their illusions while using it.
Class Traits:
- Same as Guild Wars 1. Make Each class have a Primary Focus.
Example: Elementalist Primary focus trait line could be Arcane Power. Thus only primary Elementalists could have access to that trait line. But a Warrior that takes his secondary class as elementalist would not be able to spend points into that trait tree.
- Stats gained from trait trees can only be applied 1 time.
Example: An Elementalist/Warrior Spending 30 points into their fire tree and 30 Points in Strength would not gain 600 power but instead will only gain 300 power.
- Set up the trait screen to have 2 pages. Primary and Secondary. This would allow ya to not need to change the main trait screen.
Skills:
- Add a second page to the skill tab for the second class. a character would have access to all the skills of the second profession. They must be unlocked as usual for skill points. And the skills would cost more than their primary class skills were to learn.
Well there it is. personally i feel this would be the most feasible way to execute a GW1 style multi-class system. It would give the much needed character build diversity that made GW1 such a massive hit. If any of the Devs end up liking this pm me and we will talk about it more. I can even Photoshop up some concepts for the skill/traits screens. Anyways keep up the good work GW Team and love to hear any input from anyone about this.

Here is an Example of what i think the primary focus traits could be.
Elementalist:
- Arcane Power
Warrior:
- Discipline
Ranger:
- Beastmastery
Necromancer:
- Soul Reaping
Guardian:
- Virtues
Thief:
- Trickery
Engineer:
- Tools
Mesmer:
- Illusions
All of these would only be accessable to your primary profession. Just Like GW1.

It’d be quite overpowered to have a thief running in with minions and illusions, what about pets?

I have played guild wars and the dual class system worked very well, but that was back when energy and armor were still features. Therefor a warrior/elementalist would have to play very differently than a regular elementalist because he couldn’t afford to spam expensive skills. Also classes would no longer have little specialties seeing as a thief, expert at single targeting could switch to elementalist, expert at aoe.
This would also mess with class mechanics, how would a sword/knife thief/ele work?
Also a warrior/ele would be hell to balance, seeing as you can cast any signet without downsides with set in stone and have a 40% reduction on cooldown, permanent 160 precision, 70% longer bleeds, 15% more damage to bleeding targets, 20% to burn melee signet of restoration would be a straight upgrade.
Imagine trying to balance that. Classes would be based on exploiting the dual class system. So in a way… classes would be less diverse?
heh i take it you didn’t think this through huh?

No.
It was a conscious decision that they did not add dual class system. It was easier to balance this way.

so tell me, how would a warrior/ele work? switching to ele skills would trigger which element? all 4?
and what does that say about the elementalist? does that mean that the elementalist, which currently can’t even weapon swap because of the attunements, would now be able to equip two weapon sets, giving them access to 40 (FORTY) weapon skills.
this isn’t happening, kid.

Honestly , it is possible , but it would cost them maybe thousands of work hours to get this right and balanced , and that just for launch.
I cant even think about how much extra work they would have after that.
So i dont think it will happen , possible , but VERY unlikely.
