gems... too far?
You could just pay $20 if you don’t like it. Its still much cheaper than a subscription.
it’s not the money. trust me. i have 3 full (3 all campaigns and expansion) guild wars 1 accounts (one of which i actually did buy some bank tabs and additional stuff like makeovers and name changes etc. on) and two guild wars 2 accounts now.
my problem is that it’s a tremendous kitten-up on the part of the devs to have in-game currency have anything whatsoever to do with actual cash. this kind of thing wrecks game economies.
Actually due to all the gold sinks and the artificial demand created by Anet, prices remain relativly low in anything you need in game, which is not a poor mans economy, and which is a very healthy economy for all players due to the ease of making gold
just spend usd10 for 800 gems if you think 80silvers for 100 gems is a bit too high for you.
so watch the gem prices now, raises like hell, and btw, there should be a balance in items too, cant be i get a lucky drop like a sword or staff or smthin and then never have to get gold or anything else in the game caus the selling price is too high…
its 80 silver for 100 gems on your server?! Fantastic which one is that.. its nearing 2gold on our server for 100.
I was under the impression that the entire Black Lion Trading Company — Trading Post and all — was a global, game-wide economy. I didn’t think the market rate for gold-to-gems was different for each server. Am I wrong? I know I checked earlier today and it was 80 silver for 100 gems, as well.

Your right it is a game wide server for trading. However due to the Halloween event the price of gems is fluctuating drastically with the amount of players online at any given time. Between costume purchases, key purchases, etc, the amount of gems is going to fluctuate for a while.
Best bet for those buying gems is to wait about 2 days after the event has ended. By then the items will have been removed, and anyone with extra gems left over, is now going to be attempting to sell them to make up the gold they spent buying the gems in the first place.
i think the price of gems themselves is a bit high. it’s almost 10 dollars for a costume. that’s a lot of money for a skin.
however, i feel like arenanet has done a great job and gave us a lot of content without asking for anything in return, so i did what my friend does, and gave them a “tip” for the quality service. so i bought some gems, bought a costume, and have been celebrating halloween in game with it.
