(guild)capes
i think they gave up capes when they decided to make charrs a playable race. the charrs is the main problem with capes because of clipping issue.
the incredibles the movie explained very well why cape are not practical at all^^

I understand that capes can be a clipping problem (mainly with charrs), but GW2 is a great MMO and Anet has a skilled staff or else they wouldnt have made such a great MMO. I would love to have capes in the game! I think over all they make everyone look awesome! Also if clipping is such an issue and they can’t 100% get rid of it i am willing to put up with a little clipping now and then.
PS. WoW has the wargen race and although they do not get on all fours to run they are hunched over much like charr.
No capes please. Sash like items maybe. But I hate capes. Everyone ends up looking the same. Very un-creative.

PLEASE add capes! They make the game indefinitely better looking… As for the people using the Chars as an argument against the capes: Remember WoW and the Drainei? Noticed how they fixed it? It’s better than nothing. Please, Anet, add something new already! I’m sick and tired of months and months the same stuff. I don’t need more weapon skins…

Charr’s never had capes last I checked, Humans did.
Maybe the Charr and Asura should not have capes and make them available for Humans and Norn.

Funny how capes have always been optional, just because you don’t want them doesn’t mean nobody can.

Actually, i’m pretty sure they are mandatory.
If you aren’t wearing a cape, you’re doing it wrong.
Capes would probably clip like crazy on all races and most armor types. Look at longbow on medium armor (aka trench coats) the lower end of most bows almost always clips. Now imagine adding capes as some back items clip a little bit as it is. No only would Charr tail probably be a clipping problem but several armors on all races as well. These issues are far more complicated than just drawing up a cape and slapping it on a character.
As far as I know, they float the existing back items off the character to avoid clipping. This could be a bigger issue with capes as they would have to float them pretty far to avoid clipping with legs and existing armor around the legs as they move more than the back. While not related to capes here is a situation related to a back piece where a dev stopped in to explain part of the issue.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/southsun/Backpiece-clipping/
I think it’s the case that there will always be clipping in one way or another When we pull it far enough off the back for it not to clip on heavy armors, people in light/medium armor have a large gap between their back and the item. We try to find the happy medium where we can appease as many as we can, but it’s not going to be perfect for everyone.
That being said, we are looking into these issues and trying to develop better systems for the back-slot items that will result in less clipping and less gaps. Certain armors will always be problematic, but we’re always looking into solutions for things like these.
As for the desire for capes, I wouldn’t wear them but I see no reason to exclude them if they can indeed avoid clipping issues and other problems related to them
I agree, we need capes/cloaks. They don’t have to be so straight forward either. Someone said it makes everyone look the same, well this image has been floating around for a long time and I rather love the ideas.
The boot armor on Charr is different than other races, Anet could do the same with the capes. I’ve seen it done in other games. They could even make the cape hang lower on the Charrs back, under the neck main.
I want to make a pole and see how many people want to see capes/cloaks implemented vs how many would not.
Yes but see how most of those are not capes? Only 2 of them are. They are sashes. I said sashes are okay.

I made a poll lol check it out mayhaps
Charrs shouldn’t been aminated like they are.
Back in GW1, they knew how to walk straight, and looks like they became bit more primitive by the last 250 years.
But there are techniques how to prevent clippings and weird morph animations.
We’ll have capes later, I’m sure about that. Imagine a cape back item that worth 2000 Gems That would be a lot of income $pike…
Anyway, I really hope that Capes are not going to be back pieces…
How would I use my quiver & others then? I don’t mind on clipping tho.
We loooove capes. In a lot of shapes. My favourite is the left shoulder style (Renaissance)

Well coming from a personal standpoint on capes, I like them, in GW1 it was a much better system of representing your guild than the guild weapons, and a much cooler item than the silly flag they gave us which is impaled into your back, talk about your dictatorship guilds…xD
If Anet wanted to keep us happy they’d give this more of a look over, if you don’t want to wear them, i don’t think they should be necessary, you should be allowed to hide them, but given their attention to simple guild management, i honestly can’t see anything guild orientated such as a cosmetic cape being a high priority.
As far as capes on rangers, with your trench/long coats, i never showed my cape in gw1 on my ancient armour on my ranger, it looks silly having a cape and long coat together.
If they were to implement them, we are probably looking more realistically, at future armour sets having a cape as part of the armour itself.
It would make the game just a little more entertaining for me at least as appearance is such a massive aspect of the game.
Most likely in a pub…unable to sit on stools/chairs
Perhaps a ranger with their trench coat type things could use a scarf, type cape slot item. Also I agree it would nice to have a quiver and a cape both, but I think the cape would have to take the back slot. It’s a sacrifice I’d be willing to make though.
Never could understand why people are hung up on capes. In my opinion, and it is only my opinion although it may be shared by others, capes make your character look like a ’tween. I never showed a cape in GW1 as it just looked dorky. In truth the only super hero that actually made a cape work was Batman and the majority of comic book super heroes did not wear capes. Only a handful did. Superman to me would have been better off without a cape….. well he would have been better off with a completely different look as those red underpants are an eyesore.
I suppose the real issue here is Batman’s cape actually was functional and served a purpose to make him more sinister looking. The cape on Robin actually makes him look like he is stuck as a junior sidekick forever, it makes him look younger than he is. Capes on Superman, Thor and others served no true purpose and in most cases would not have been missed if the original episode of that particular hero had no cape.
Capes are an awesome way to make your character unique and epic.

Haha lol… Not if the capes has multiple meshes and textures.
Arenanet needs to make a lot of variation (normal, scrapped, silk, worn, fur, half-fur, | full, half, etc etc), and dye-able.
Lot of work, but possible, and thats something we’ll be happy for a month.
“A man chooses; a slave obeys.” | “Want HardMode? Play Ranger!”
They did add those banner things that go on your back and I’m sure they’ll add more guild-oriented back pieces in the future. So stuff is bound to pop up eventually if the majority wants it. ^^
Blame the Charr

Half-fur and fur would be awesome. As long as there are different types, textures and they’re dye-able, it’ll bring more customization to the table.
I thought about capes before, we need them!
Is it that hard to fix clipping or will it always be in gw2? I rlly think that is the only reason we don’t have them yet.

You may want capes but no player needs capes as far as I know. I have yet to run into anything in game that required me to have a cape to continue or improve my chances of survival.

I imagine it must be pretty difficult. Look at all the clipping there is now especially with Charr. Large weapons clip into armor a lot and so forth. From what I know, and I could very well be wrong, but there is a little bit of give and take when it comes to optimization and clipping. I feel that Anet is doing their best to work on these issues but I’m almost certain fixing them isn’t as simple as point and click.

Make it like helmets/gloves. Hideable. You don’t need to use it if you don’t want to – but don’t block it for the rest of us who do.
I think you are asking the wrong way …It seems to me that if you say “capes” anet is like no. But maybe if you ask for a backpack that looks like a sheet that just happens to have your guilds logo on it they may just stand and take notice to that suggestion.
I agree with Gummy, it would be awesome if capes were available as a backpiece from guild armorers in addition to the backpacks. As for the Charr problem perhaps a a long/flowing belt or sash displaying their guild emblem would also be a viable solution. The main problem (imo) is that current the only method for displaying your guild emblem is either on an ugly lil’ napsack, or on equally not-so-pretty guild weapons.
Can the float problem on back items mentioned above be fixed by having the back items floated at different distances for each armor type?
i like the idea of a cape/cloak but in a different slot and hideable…don’t want to roam the world without a quiver
