i’ve noticed that there is an extreme jump in price between the tier 2 and tier 3 cultural armors. from tier 1 to tier 2 you are looking at a jump in price of a little over twice the amount you paid for the tier 1. from tier 2 to 3 though that jump is nearly 16 times the amount you paid for tier 2. that’s an extremely high amount (around 119 gold total for a full set of tier 3 cultural armor). i realize that you want people to continue playing but with that type of mark-up you’re encouraging people to buy from gold farmers to cut the time in earning the full amount in regular game play (which only encourages gold farmers to continue their at times malicious actions against your player base) or you’re encouraging frustration amongst the players who don’t want to go that route or can not afford to buy gems from the in game store… especially if the player is hoping to get more than one of their characters in cultural armor to begin with. for those players who want to get there honestly they may find it too much of a hassle to do this with all their characters. frustration in game can lead to players deciding that the time isn’t worth it at all if they can not afford the gear (even if it’s only for the skin of that gear so they can transmutate it with a fine transmutation stone for items with the stats they want) they want. that can lead to stagnation and ultimately people deciding to quit for games with “payoffs” which are more obtainable.

i understand the need to have a mark up between tiers but at nearly 16 times the amount you paid for tier 2 i think the current amount is too high. again the tier 2 cultural armor sets will run around 7.2 gold (which is, again, more than twice the amount one pays for tier 1 which is reasonable) while the tier 3 sets are around 119 gold. you could do a markup rate of 6 times the tier 2 (putting it at around 43 gold) or even 10 times (putting it around 72 gold) and it would still be more reasonable than the current 119 gold.

at this point i simply don’t think it’s a reasonable thing to do to players who actually want these items. most of them will continue playing once they obtain the armor they want as the content is there for them to do so but making them pay 119 gold is a bit high and, again, inadvertantly encourages people to take advantage of the gold farmers and their offers to cut their wait time or do away with it. it also encourages player in-game frustration which isn’t good for the game for all involved. lower the prices of the tier 3 cultural armor to something more reasonable and obtainable (again 43 gold is definitely reasonable while 72 gold, which is still fairly high, would be tolerable in comparison to the current price of 119 gold) just a thought.

I calculated that I will need 238 days of playing 5-6h per day to get 119g. (I make about 40-50silver over 5-6h). I’ve seen people claim to have 40g or that they make 16g a day, but none of them shared their amazing secret.

The alternative route is to buy gems and sell those for gold. At 20silver for 100 gems or 1g = 600gems… that is 71400gems for a full T3… so a lot.

My guess is, T3 is meant for very dedicated farmes, creative folks who know how to make 16g a day, or those who buy lots of gems?

Edit: got recent gem prices.

By doing events at Orr I make around 1g per hour without counting the gathering materials.
However, those T3 are just as good as crafted exotics, if not worse since you can’t really pick your stats. The only reason for anyone to want T3 would be for the looks, but at least I don’t really like them.

i wasn’t really looking for suggestions for how to get money to buy these (do speed run cm dungeon for 5 hours and you’ll walk away with around 5 gold not counting loot with a low possibility of dying too much plus over 100k in xp for me at lvl 71) i’m pointing out the absurdity of the price for cultural tier 3 armor sets. having a huge price like this encourages more players to lose interest or use means outside of what arenanet would approve of. that is not to say ALL players will lose interest with the game or will go to a gold vendor. yes hardcore gamers like myself will in fact put in the work to get there… but not for all our characters. which we may have done had the price not been so steep. that means the game itself would have been more fun for us in general and would have kept it’s interest far longer than if we looked at things we wanted and decided it was too much of a grind to do it for all our alts. if arenanets overall goal is to keep players interested enough then they have to find the balance between too easy and too much of a grind. as is the price of 119 gold is too high. half the gamers i know who may want the cultural armor have stated they won’t get it because of the price which has already taken something of interest and put it out of reach for them. that’s not a great thing for any game to do to players. again you may think diffferently but remember there are plenty of gamers who would agree with this. enough of them and you end up with a handicap that arena created for themselves which they could have avoided by simply lowering the price.
if the armor is more obtainable the more likely that it won’t be seen as too much of a grind and the more likely people will want to get them for all their alts which, in turn, increases the amount of time and interest they will show in the game. on the other hand make it too difficult and you will see players perhaps stick it out to get one full set but will forgo putting in the same effort or interest for their alts which can lead to less interest and thus time spent on the game. it’s really up to arenanet to decide which they’d prefer…
